What is the coolest gift a customer has given you?

It hasn't happened very often at my job, and it's always a surprise when it happens. Some of the most thoughtful things clients has gifted to me has been plants, home made confections, and flowers. Though I think the coolest thing I have ever been gifted was home grown veggies that client brought be from their garden.

Several years ago, I worked in a bank, and one of my customers was an older gentleman who would come in, periodically, just like any other customer.

There was nothing remarkable about him, but I'd take the time to talk with him, and was just genuinely nice to him, as I was with all my customers.

One day, he comes in carrying a book, and I asked him about it, if it was any good, who the author was, etc. It turns out he was the author, and he'd brought the book specifically to give to me. He'd written it several years prior, and was apparently pretty well known overseas.

The book was one of his last first edition copies, and he'd written a personal message inside, for me: "To [my name]: Thank you for being one of the nice guys," and he'd signed it.

That was actually the last time he ever came into the bank, and the last time I ever saw him. I found out, some time later, that he'd passed away only a couple months after that.

That was about 14 years ago, now. I still have the book.

We're not allowed to accept gifts from customers... since it may result in a conflict of interest. I did accept a t-shirt once, though... still wear it occasionally. It has the customer's company name sewn on the sleeve, but it's not very noticeable.

I did not do frontline face to face contact with customers at most of my jobs and had no pockets for carrying gifts home but sometimes my co workers would give me left over product they had failed to sell and my boss would do that too. I remember a guy snuck food into my work space one time because I was hungry but hours from my food break.

Don’t have customers. I’ve had students in the military. One guy got promoted during one of my courses and he asked me to pin his rank during the ceremony. That made me feel very humbled and honored.

It’s usually the suppliers, being interested in future business, giving you gifts. 😉
Over the years I got a Leatherman tool, a Swiss multi knife, wine, a tee warmer set, USB-sticks, some nice city vacation books…

I have received alcohol, baked snacks, money, fresh home grown vegetables, and just this Last Christmas I received a drone. That is probably the coolest gift.

I got a $50, bill twice. I usually get bottles of liquor, gift certificates, bags of weed or homemade goods . I don't drink or smoke but I take the gifts anyway as it was a kind gesture.

When I was waitressing in a bar a regular customer gave me a really fancy looking watch for my birthday. I’m sure it cost more than I make in a month. I didn’t accept it but I did agree to have dinner with him.
