Not everyone has time for a cat, people have to work or go to school but this should never be an excuse to not get a cat, because they are pretty amazing and you don't have to stay with them 24/7. 14 hours a day is more than enough.

1. They are independent

They won't die from hunger (only if you lock them in a room with no escape). they are intelligent and can go days without eating but I highly recommend to leave some food for them before you leave the house. Your cat will miss you, they have feelings (shocking, right?) but they won't die if you don't come home.

2. They will make you die from laughter

Let's be honest, cats are the funniest animals, probably because they are literally crazy! You won't be bored with a cat, ever.

3. They are messy but cleaning after them is better than cleaning after dogs

Don't get me wrong, I love dogs but they are MESSY, even more than a cat, a lot! The cat will piss you off sometimes and she/he can throw up (disgusting). The point is that they are the cleanest pets ever, they take care of themselves, you don't even need to wash them (you can do it anyway, once a year)

4. Cats will hunt all your insects!

Don't worry about what they are going to do with the dead insects, just be happy, you won't any insects after you get a cat.

5. They can save your life if you are depressed

I was told once a story about how a teenager wanted to end her life but her cat saved her by meowing till someone came. If you are depressed, your cat will keep you from committing suicide (at least preventing, till you get professional help) Why would you kill yourself when you know that there's a cat waiting for you to feed her/him and to love you?

You don't have to get only one cat, YOU can adopt or buy three kittens, more is better when it comes to cats. (remember that you should have money and space for that)

I do like this take but people should get pets they want and can afford! Dogs are great for making you change your lifestyle, but I do agree cats are very flexible. I wouldn’t ever leave my cat alone overnight though.

Now. He’s far from independent and he definitely won’t take care of the insects. We believe he was put in a bun bag and left outside as a kitten and he found us. He’s extremely needy. Add to that, he is petrified of spiders! He will bury his face into your body and whimper. He loves to be treated like a baby (rocked, wrapped up, nose to nose rubbing, you name it)
He is only sick when he’s poorly because I brush him regularly and that stops him getting hair balls. He even tolerated baths.

But he definitely makes us all laugh and he’s pulled me from bad places. I have to take anti depressants and I get bad days. But before I was on them he helped me so much. He used to roll around in my lap until I laughed, he’s always been a big playful kitten (note he’s holding my phone charger for me!). I know he helped my brother too when he was lonely and depressed.

I love dogs but from dog sitting my friends’, life is far calmer with a cat

Good mytake. But the reason I got the Nobel Prize in biology was my theory that you can only be a cat Or a dog person. The choice of a cat over a dog isn't always about what personality you have (it could be because of their added convenience as you say), but often is, and cat people are different from dog people I think.

If you're ok with unrequited love, well so be it, off to the cat shelter to find your new companion. But theyre too independent. You can look after them, then ask for a cuddle and they just turn around, tail up, and leave! Like, I feed you you miserable animal... dont turn around and show me your hole!!

You never know what theyre thinking either. You always know what a dog is thinking about - play, walkies, sex or food. Sure they Could be pondering their struggle towards an incandescent beakon of purpose in the netherworld of endless absurdity reaching towards a maudlin cosmos of nothingness, but 60% of the time its one of the big four, and I like that transparency!

A cat is the Slytherin of the pet shelter. The gunman at the bird reunion. The entrepreneurial yuppie that sits atop the castle, only looking down to us peasants below to gloat and to see if we've got any meat on us.

I dont trust anything that sounds like a horrorfilm when they make that creepy noise. Ufuffufghh. (Thats a shudder, in case you were wondering). A dog is 100% honest and loyal, and always capable of cheering you up with their absurd behaviour. Dog shelter for me all the way!

I have had Cats as Part of My life Most of my Life, And they do Make a House a Home.
My parents have a Yellow Fellow, Buster Brown, Smart as a Whip, And this is their Child that they Love as Much as Any of us girls, Their own daughters.
It takes a Special person to Have a Cat, Any pet at that. It Has to be In your own Heart from the Start, And to care for them, Is to Love them, And Make sure their Cat 'Care,' Is Something One, hun, Would do as though Taking Care of Oneself.

Owning any pet is good for your heart. Cats in particular lower your stress level—possibly since they don’t require as much effort as dogs—and lower the amount of anxiety in your life. Petting a cat has a positive calming effect.

I bought a new house in the middle of nowhere back in 2000. It bordered a National Forest on a dead-end gravel road. Loved it.

At first there were countless wild critters running about. Some caused problems and a few were troublesome. However, they were tolerated thanks to the entertainment and beauty they brought.

Then we brought a pair of 'country' cats to live with us. It didn't take long and those two murdering POS lifeforms killed countless wild animals and would place them on one of the outer decks for me to see on my way to work.

I used to like cats. No more. I enjoy watching wildlife enjoying the freedom they have. I do not enjoy stepping over dead animals on an almost daily basis on my way to work in the morning.

I love my cat. I rescued her from my horse barn when she was a kitten. She's now almost 3 years old. I'm very allergic but I take allergy meds every day just so I can keep her. She's very affectionate and is a total cutie. She's a calico. She's mad at me right now because I just brought an 8 week old golden retriever into the house and she's displeased lol

People always ask if I'm a cat or dog person and I always just say I'm an animal person. If you ask my husband, he'd probably tell you that the most common thing that comes out of my mouth is when I cuddle Franki (our cat) and say, "I can't handle how cute she is! I want 10!"

He always follows this up with, "No, you'd literally die." Allergies are a pain lol

When I was four years old, my father and I went to his friend's house. Their cat Snickers had a litter and I was allowed to pick out one. This adorable little ball of fur, with grey and black tiger stripes, lily white paws that looked like booties, and emerald green eyes stood out. She was named Precious. I had her for twenty one years. My favorite memory of her was after I cam back from a two week environmental trip, she stuck two of her paws in each of my shoes and loudly meowed. Sadly, her health began to rapidly deteriorate last year and I had to put her down. I have her ashes in my bedroom. It's still hard sometimes to look around and not see her there.

I love all animals and I've always wanted to have my own. But I work about 3 12 hour shifts a week. I don't want to get a dog because dogs love attention and I would hate to leave a dog alone for that long. I'm thinking of getting a cat because they're more independent and I wouldn't feel so bad about leaving them alone. I would have to wait until I am financially stable and have moved out of my parents house to get a cat first.

I love cats and dogs, but I don't like reason number 1 and think that's the reason that keeps a lot of people from wanting to own a cat. That's why people consider cats to be cold and somewhat of an asshole so I definitely want a cat who's lovable, loves to cuddle, and get petted. It's been a really long time sense I owned a cat, I've only had dogs so far.

Fair enough, cats are super cute and cosy and fun to just cuddle, but, I dislike how they bring back birds and mice etc to their owners. Yeah they bring them as a gift but it’s not good, especially around children. I love cats though. They’re so independent and chilled. Love the cute little purring they do. I’m more of a dog person than a cat person but I’d definitely love a cat!

Yep, cats are amazing, they help relieve my stress levels a lot. My cat Gracie, HE KNOWS when I am upset and he will curl up with me and purr until I fall asleep, then he stays their until he knows I am okay. He is also smart and very very calm. He cracks me up because when he wants tuna, he'll stand by where it's stashed and just stare at my mom and back to the stash like, "Feed ME." XD XD XD XD

A politician in my country tried to ban cats. His party only got 2.4%, which is below the 5% threshold to get 1 seat in parliament, but yeah. Wow.

Also, cats are not useful for killing insects in NZ because there are so many insects.

And, also, dogs are not messy. I have one and I don't understand what messes you are talking about.

No. It's not true if your dog is good. My dog is a tiny little ray of sunshine.

She's a Tibetan Spaniel, so all she does is snuggle up to you to keep warm.
She's wool, as well, so she doesn't moult.

I have 5 cats. 3 inside and 2 outside that won't come in.
My cats are all over the age of 5 so they aren't as playful as kittens but they'll still get frisky!
Oh and 1 dog lol

I'd love to get a cat but I'm highly allergic. I have two dogs so that will have to do, lol. One of them thinks he's a cat - he pounces like a cat, hunts bugs around the house, and kneads every soft thing in sight 😂

We had a cat once. It slept most of the day, and would sneak up behind you, whack you off the back of the head, then run off. It ripped our hamper apart, and would always try to bully the dog to get to the dog food. I couldn't stand the damned thing!
