It's kind of disappointing that being fat is basically becoming "normal". I'm pretty sure that in age ranges >30 it's the majority in the US. I don't really care so much about plus size models as much as I care about how everyone must be eating shitty food and sitting on their couches watching netflix instead of doing things. That part of it is depressing.
I completely agree with you, as someone who is on the taller, slimmer side with a BMI of around 18, I find that at one point everyone was like "Oh to be a model you have to be teeny tiny and the tallest girl going around" then curvier women begin putting forward the idea of body shaming facing bigger women saying that they too can be models (which is perfectly fine) but what I find strange is that the people saying that "YES! curvy women are all a man wants! They don't want some stick thin bony model and why do we advertise clothes with stick thin bony models anyway? It's so unrealistic" Like ok cool thats your opinion but there are infact naturally skinny girls out there that could be healthier than an obese 'curvy' women. I completely agree like what are our children going to grow up thinking? Society needs to advertise that all body types are beautiful in their own way.
It's not that they are promoting unhealthy habits, it's to make us plus size women Feel empowered and beautiful. Some of us plus size girls and women can't really lose weight sometimes it's just in our genes. I come from a big family and it's not because we eat a lot, it's just how God made us. We receive so much hate because we are big, "ugly," "gross," and "unhealthy"... I'm perfectly healthy but being called names hurts... I can't help my size... I would give anything to be skinny but I accept the way I look cause I'm beautiful in my own way, I can't speak for others though. God just wanted some of us to be big beautiful women and we deserve models to promote that we are all beautiful people no matter our size
I think they're necessary because not everyone wants to look like a Victoria's Secret model and not everyone wants to be thin. As hard as it is to believe, it's true. It's just smart business practice to cater to everyone, regardless if you like their weight or not.
I believe the honor of winning a bid on a style or becoming a success with clothing belongs to those who can make anyone any size look fabulous.
I believe that we should invest in the real Americans and people in the world. It is good business. Sex sells and so does love. All sizes are lovable and deserving of adoration. It is not a bad t hing to write about. Freedom to feel good about yourself begins with forcing others to see people as beautiful creatures regardless of their looks. We are no longer shallow. Lovingly, ME

I think there's lots of gorgeous plus sized models, and while having a few extra pounds won't make someone ugly , we really shouldn't encourage them that being morbidly obese is something that's fine, because that's promoting health problems , while we can support women who are overweight and think they're pretty, we should encourage them to become healthy, its basically the same thing as promoting a girl with an eating disorder , promoting unhealthy habits
I don't mind plus size models. I think Tessa is beautiful. I don't think that these models are promoting anything other than self love. Many will disagree and that is fine.
it goes from one extreme to another and its just stupid and above all sexist. do you see any plus size male models? no only female ones. its sexist to say that fat women can be sexy but not fat men.
its disgusting isn't it, that when a mans overweight it's unacceptable and they need to lose weight but when a woman's overweight she should love herself and anyone who says otherwise are terrible people.
Girl, a man made woman of the year and more children are idnetifying trans than ever before you dont have nothing to worry about with plus size people. Never in many kind or psychology have i heard people ever felt thr need to be fat, cause beleive it or not in white western world curves to majority are ugly. Skinnier is better. Vs africa n south america curves are beautiful skinny is ugly.

I personally dont get why its a point of pride to be fat or to like people for their fatness as though its some panacea of openmindedness. I get there is a need for us size models but why not celebrate as someones bulimia? Hi im a size 0 and i starve myself to death do i can be this drop dead sexy and have some hip pointers.
Women of all sizes are fine if they are healthy. It's cool that young girls now have a range of beauty to look to instead of one extreme.
"people should teach others to aspire to be healthy and not fat. "
Fat does not always mean unhealthy. There are skinny people I know who are unhealthy. It's about physical activity and diet. WWE wrestler, The Big Show, is a BIG man, and way over the BMI range for health, BUT he is probably more healthy than most users here.
After years of underweight models it's only fair to have some bigger girls. There are a lot of us, hence advertising for our clothes. There are now more models in the average to healthy range as well. BMI has been known for it's inacuraccy.
I believe everyone has an opinion and everyone should just let people be who they want to be. You don't like plus sized models? Fine. But they're not hurting anybody. They're "encouraging obesity" the same way regular models are "promoting anorexia".

Eh. not really even remotely hot. I'm not a big believer that models need to reflect "real people." That's a load of crap. Do you think your doctor should reflect a "realistic intelligence type?" Do you think your airline pilot should have "real" visual acuity, reflexes and problem solving skills? No? Then why the hell should a MODEL have to look like the same schlub I see every freaking day on the bus?
I think it teaches individuals who are over weight that its ok - when it's not. Being overweight is just as detrimental to health as being under weight, and something which should not be encouraged.

There are plus size male models now. =)

Agreed @anonman32

Its all sad it really is.

I get what you mean. But it's just trying to level out the fact a lot of mannequins are stick thin. And it's trying to get a mix of both

Plus size models are fulfilling an important niche. Over weight women like clothes-why not get someone to model those clothes?
Ewwww they have clogged arteries lol. Boner killer.
I think it teaches individuals who are over weight that its ok - when it's not. Being overweight is just as detrimental to health as being under weight, and something which should not be encouraged.
Fat is fat, no matter show much the obese feminist dyed-red-spiked-hair swamp beasts try to call it anything else.
I think the have the right to be happy in whatever size they are. Why do people get so fucking offended? I will never know..
