Do you believe Fred Flintstone hits his wife?

Question

On several episodes, he does seem to yell and lose his temper on trivial stuffs and Wilma ends up calming him down. That must probably be one of the reasons his mother in-law hates him.

Though he's never seen physically abusing or hitting his wife, do you think he probably he did off screen? I know it's a cartoon but just asking. Base on this episode, I think he does:

Fred is based on Ralph Kramden from the Honeymooners who was a similar working class blowhard who'd make much more overt and ridiculous threats smack his wife right to the moon if she crossed him.

Thing is, he and Fred are both big softies and neither would lay a hand on Alice or Wilma respectively. Alice and Wilma in turn don't tolerate any crap from their loudmouth hubbies and wouldn't stick around for any abuse either (the common refrain in shows of the day was "I'm going home to mother!")

Right there he seems like it but I remember both Fred and Wilma would get angry fairly often at each other and I think the writers used the other person looking scared to accentuate the anger.

His mother in law hates his because the "funny" (humor was much different back then) stereotype back then was that men don't get along with their mother in laws.

It's possible, but not necessarily. He could be emotionally abusing her as well. Of course, times were different then and women didn't have the freedoms they do now. I'm not saying it's right, but things have changed thankfully.

Yeah Fred Flintstone pointed like he was about to hit her but i do believe there could be possibility on one of the  episodes that he does hit her but hard to really say.
