Wrong. Being nice to random people who don't even care is pointless. It makes you get walked on. A decent person is fair and treats people with the same respect as they would treat them. Letting people walk on you ins't nice.
Let's say you have a close friend or family member that's going through something like drug addiction. Being nice usually gets you nowhere. Sometimes tough love is necessary.

Absolutely. However being nice is not the same thing as being a doormat. Being nice is simply having good etiquette and treating others with respect.
Being nice is not a need, its a trait we naturally have. It isn't a thing you can buy, it is part of you and so I think the way you put it is wrong.
We don't need it, we are it.
Yes, but I do think a person should have limit too and shouldn't be nice all the time.
People can coexist peacefully without conflict without being nice to each other. To me a decent person is one who acts civily towards others.
Batman isn't nice but he gets shit done. Is he then an indecent human being?
Nope don't have to be nice to be a decent person at all.
I disagree.
I am a complete asshole and everyone loves me.
No that's pitty. LOL
Okay makes sense.
I would pity myself too if I was someone else.
If you follow a personal code based on empathy, then yes.
I personally think it depends, because people can push you to not be nice to them anymore that doesn't mean you're not a decent human being.
What's your definition of "being nice" and "decent human being"?
Let's say you have a close friend or family member that's going through something like drug addiction. Being nice usually gets you nowhere. Sometimes tough love is necessary.
*Being nice in that instance.
Not you can be neutral to people and still be seen as a decent human being.
Well you don't have to go out of your way to do other people favors, but just don't be a total asshole...
Being nice is the bare minimum of being a decent human being.
You still eat chicken right?
So nice is just for politics
Being nice and kind is a beautiful thing, being a lame push over isn't.
You dont have to be nice to be a good person. You just have to be real. Sometimes people need the hard truth
Being nice leaves a lot to interpretation. I think someone who is polite in their constructive criticism is a good person.
The way I figure it is, treat people the way you would want to be treated and you will have a head start on being a decent person.
