That's awesome, what's your favorite thing to talk about in philosophy? Or who is your favorite philosopher and why? I'd love to hear why you're so passionate about it.
I love deconstructing arguments, asking hard questions, and analyzing every angle. I could do it all day… I especially like religious debate (I’m an Atheist), as well as psychology. I don’t really have a “favourite” I think most have something to offer for everyone, but some notables are Spinoza, Harris, and Kiekergaard. I suppose I believe “an unexamined life is a life not worth living” and having wine and conversation about the nature of reality is a life well lived. Like the ancient Greeks, they were onto something. What can YOU go on about for hours?
Ah, Kierkegaard, I know him well. I really appreciated his breakdown of the story of Abraham and Isaac, I don't agree with everything he said, he was definitely wrestling with his own trauma and losses as he wrote it, but it provides a really great framework for how we look at the stories of the Hebrew Bible and Christian Bible, and parables and fables as a whole. He's a pain to read, though!
Movie analysis. Give me a movie and let me sink my teeth in and I could go on for hours about deeper themes and meanings and incredible foreshadowing and foils and all that. Counter to that I could rant for hours about how much I despise the way people mock English Language Arts, then turn around and make just the worst possible takes in critical analysis.
Example: "At the end of Inception he's still in a dream, blah blah blah." That's not a good take. It's a take that negates the entire theming, symbolism, foils and narrative that gets set up throughout the rest of the movie. This is exactly why we need ELA because humans need to be taught how to think critically in this way, It's not easy, it's not innate and it pisses me off... clearly.
