"You look good for your age!" Do you consider this a compliment or insult?

"You look good to be 30!" Of course someone looks good at 30, that's still relatively young!
Why are people saying this to individuals who are only in their late twenties and thirties? You never hear anyone say this to a 20 year old. It comes off as ageism.

Oh trust me, a lot of women look ugly at 25, not to mention 30.

So yeah, while it might be a lowkey insult, it might very well be a genuine compliment, if a little backhanded.

It can be an insult because they're basically saying at your age no one is suppose to look good. Basically calling you old. When clearly someone is supposed to look good because they're only 30, not 80! Lol

Yes, sometimes. Mainly from people around the same age though or older.

Maybe they just expect people around your age to look older so maybe you do look younger for your age and it could be a complement

Yeah, but why can't people just say "You look good!" Instead adding "for your age" at the end! That's the part that makes people feel some type of way. Lol
