It's an old man move to get in good with the nurses - NOT to get more apple cobbler, but because they're the ones taking care of your rear while you're in the hospital. If you piss them off, they can make you're stay and healing time as difficult and as long as possible!

There's a few people you absolutely NEED to be nice to: your health care workers, the people who make your food, the people who pay you, and anyone who provides you a roof over your head. There are certainly others too, but you'll have to figger that out on your own!

Nurse here! Just ask us. No need to try to flirt (definitely won't work on me anyways) or "get in good" with us. Yeah, we're busy but it takes like 2 seconds to call dietary. Or hell, depending on what setting you're it, you can just ask dietary yourself when they come in to ask you what you want.

Just don't be a dick to us and we'll try to get you what you ask for (unless it's something unreasonable).

But seriously, don't try to flirt with us. Someone else mentioned that we like flirting in their reply here. Surprise! We don't...

Not entirely an old man move, but a smart one. Being kind to nurses costs nothing. If someone views your kindness as a way of sucking up to maybe wheedle a tasty dessert from the nurses’ station, you can give him or her the middle finger as you savor said dessert.

The way it works is that your family helps the staff keep your area clean and NOT be demanding/bugging the staff too much. And then when you actually need something you'll get it in a timely fashion with a smile. I've seen people who did things wrong, and could click the nurse call button 100 times but wouldn't be seeing a nurse for an hour or something.

Um yes I'd do it I love apple anything especially sweet. Apple crisp and apple pie are my favorites tho. I make a mean apple pie. It's so damn good. Hahaha

Nah. Nurses will like you more if you’re nice to them and treat them like human people instead of servants. If the nurses are giving you extra portions of dessert, it’s because you’ve earned it. It also means if you take a turn for the worse and end up on life support, they won’t unnecessarily unplug you.

I had surgery last year and I was really nice to all the nurses. I never got any apple cobbler but one nurse used to come in my room and hang out wiith me.

That's a very smart move. Harmless flirting with the nurses is often liked by the nurses since it brightens their otherwise stressful day. And, it might get you a better choice of food.
