This kingdom doesn’t have a King, but it has a Queen. Once a year, for 4 months, they are allowed to associate with men, so that they can bare children.
Do you think such a kingdom could survive? 🤔
If there was a society that had run this way for hundreds of years, then, yeah, I'm sure it would be fine.
If you put TODAY's women in this situation, they'd all be dead within 6 months. Why?
Because there are tons of jobs that you can't start tomorrow and be up to speed enough to keep the operation going with even a week's training - many jobs require years of learning and moving up the ranks and dealing with problems at multiple levels to learn. ALL of these jobs have a good percentage of men (20% or more), and many have well under 1% women - which means that if men literally disappeared (or, were taken away and sequestered in Wyoming or something, so they exist, but aren't accessible), there simply aren't anything close to enough women who could take over their jobs and get them done before they died off.
Let me give you just a few examples: well over 99% of men who work in any facet of water treatment are men - the people who build the plants to begin with, the people who build the canals and distribution and holding systems, as well as all of the people who run and operate these plants on a day-to-day basis, including the truck drivers that bring in supplies and haul off waste products. If all men disappeared and no one came into work at the water treatment plant tomorrow, then most places would have a 5-10 day supply of clean water - which they likely wouldn't think to conserve - and then all the potable water would be gone. People who tried to just go to the closest river to collect drinking water would almost certainly get parasites or polluted water. How many people know how to make such water safe to drink?
And what about the people who aren't within close walking distance of natural running water? You'd need transportation, right?
The petroleum industry is very nearly 100% men. Men survey the fields, test the ground, drill the ground, install the pumps, build piplelines and storage tanks, build and operate the ships, rail cars, and trucks that move the oil to refineries, build and operate and maintain all the refineries, and transport the refined fuel to the places it needs to go. If men disappeared over night, who would know how to do any of that tomorrow? Who would you learn from? Would women be able to learn from what limited printed material existed how to refine oil into the different types of fuels, how to operate those plants, and could then distribute the fuels? No way - not even close to being able to do this in the amount of time it would need to be done. And so the existing fuel would run out in a week or two, and there would be no more.
What about electrical generation and transmission? All male. What about farming? Largely male. What about manufacturing? Mostly male. Mining? All male. Construction? Virtually all male. Auto repair? Nearly all male. Commercial fishing? All male.
I could go on, but if men disappeared for 9 months starting tomorrow, when they came back in 9 months, there would be very few women left alive to greet them. Most would have died of sickness or hunger. There would be no electricity, no clean water, no fuel, and none of the plants and machinery needed to make any of this stuff would have been maintained, so much of it would be trash and would need to be rebuilt from scratch.
Meanwhile, if the reverse was true - if women disappeared for 9 months - women would show back up 9 months later to a world that largely was the same as what they left - except for some dirty socks and pizza boxes lying around - because men ALERADY do all of those critical jobs.
Wouldn't that be a QUEENdom?
It sounds like a dangerous place to be to me - during 8 months, at least ;)
Realistically -> work environment studies have shown that 'only-female' working groups are the most hostile and scheming ones.
It may work - but not too well.
Out of interest: what do you plan for the baby boys that will be born after mating season?
That's still young enough to learn how to pee while standing :D
Fair enough.
Thanks for MHO. Your update: 12 months of mating looks to me like the better option; heh heh
No, it wouldn't. Men need women and women need men. Not just for reproduction, though that's important too, but because we're so different from one another and have complimentary roles. This would just be a society of women pretending to be men, which in many ways we already see today (to detrimental affects, many commit suicide, negatively affect families and leave men without wives). Apart from which, the children born there would have unpleasant lives. What would they do with the male children? Would the female children be allowed to see their fathers, or raised entirely by women? In a few generations of children only raised by and around women, sexual education is going to be a mess and those four months are going to be terrifying and bewildering. There wouldn't be any family life here whatsoever.
No. I would end up killing most of them. 😁
lol Thanks for mhg. 😎

It could survive if no other kingdoms exist and the men who interact with it in any way are brainwashed into complicity with 100% success. Such a society would get conquered very quickly by its neighbors, or at the very least vassalized and turned into a state of debauchery. It would need some extremely heavy-handed leverage to ensure its survival. In a fantasy setting, this usually means a non-human or near-human species, the most powerful (or only) magicians being women, blessings of gods, etc.
From a society standpoint, forcing everyone to only interact with the opposite sex during a short, specific period would also cause a lot of population problems and various humanitarian crisis as demand for different services would away heavily on a roughly seasonal basis.
Relying entirely on the sex that is responsible for carrying and birthing children as the line of defense is also a universally bad idea, because even a successful war would make the impact of relatively few casualties have a reverberating effect across the kingdom. When you look at probably the most infamous example of warrior-women from the Norse cultures, the reality is that they were actually still very rare, generally old enough to have already bore several children, and basically "ready to die."
Post-Edit: A kingdom of all males would have a lot of different problems, but still a major fundamental issue since self-reliance is completely out the window. Even the absolute most basic and primitive societies understand the need to breed in order to survive long term, and a homogeneous people that are unable to sustain themselves without whoring themselves out to foreign interests wouldn't last long.
If I'm not mistaken, something similar to a kingdom of only women already existed here on earth: Amazones. A society as you describe could probably exist, yes, as long as no male succeeds in penetrating that society. Maybe I'm wrong, but one can compare that to a group of girls being good friends with each other, till one guy enters the group... Odds are high some of the girls will start to be jealous of each other because of that male.
A similar society of men? No ! No way, because that already exists all over the world in the form of maffias all kinds. I think that a society of women will be well organised and include peace, while a similar society of only men will only lead to wars and plunders, with the best case scenario an army, not to mention what those guys would do with girls.
The best case scenario in general is women and men living together in the same society with respect for each other.
I'm a older man, and had the opportunity since my childhood to experience that difference between girls and guys, which does not mean girls are innocent; far from that. A lot of nice guys also do exist, but those men will never be given a chance to rule because of the pointless aggressivity of so called alpha males in human societies.
Men and women have different hormones and our hormonal behaviors counteract each other
If you legitimately had a kingdom of only women what you would have is a whole bunch of female hormones that would not be able to rationalize the situation at all same thing goes with the Kingdom full of just men because again hormones out of control yeah not going to work no matter how you look at it men and women are two sides of the same coin
Yeah having just women or just men in an entire kingdom is going to have that Kingdom burn to ash
The question is would a kingdom of only women want to stay a kingdom of only women knowing men exist. It does pose an interesting question though. Would women (and men for that matter) perceive each other differently if they haven't had countless generations of patriarchal conditioning.
It's funny I kind of questioned this when I watched the movie " Wonder Woman". I mean according to the Mythos of the Themyscirans. They reproduced by rading ships on the high seas. To copulate with their men. And after they were finished would throw the men's corpses into the sea... kinda makes me think DC altered this fact to make it more palatable for family audiences. It certainly does change the storyline between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor doesn't it. 🤣
A kingdom of all men? I'm of 2 minds on this 1 part of me says there'd be no change. But the other part knows how much young guys work to gain favor with women. I mean in a sense every bit of self improvement is done to market ourselves to women. So you could make an argument that in a world without women we might still be living in a cave. 🤣
Yes. I watched a drama called The Romance of Tiger and Rose where this girl wrote a story about a kingdom ruled by women that went to war against a kingdom ruled by men. Basically the men that lived in the women's kingdom were nothing more but lowly servants that did the bidding of their "masters". Clean, cook, care for the children, and even the royals had a male harem. The male born were all sent out of the kingdom the the other kingdom ruled by men and the daughters were raised in the female kingdom.
There's more the drama of course than just that, but I believe it could prevail just fine.
Do they also have female plumbers, civil engineers, farmers, lumberjacks, roofers, miners, masons, welders, etc? Because everything will run smooth as silk until infrastructure fails and nobody knows how to fix it, or supplies run out and nobody can get more.
So then, over 90% would be working hard jobs. I'm guessing you'd be in the other 10% though, right?
Nobody ever imagines these scenarios with themselves in the working class. It takes a hell of a lot of dirty, hard labor to support a kingdom. Women especially imagine a women-only society as some utopia where everyone has it so easy and peaceful, but imagine the Queen proclaiming you a plumber (which means your daughters will all be plumbers, too, because most kingdoms are caste societies). Or maybe a brickmason or blacksmith.
It's been proven in several societies throughout the world that beyond stone age tribalism, they can't. Women mostly cannot have successful societies on their own. If they have to associate with men like in your fantasy scenario, then they're not just a "queendom of only women." They're just feminists.
They would have to have a limited number of nominated mothers to ensure the whole kingdom doesn't become vulnerable at a time after the ‘insemination’ occurs.
Also, a follow up question to yours that might only be answered by the lady GaG members: how does an all female work environment operate? Does it run smoothly?
The reason I ask is because an all-male environment, I find, can be toxic. There’s no balance and testosterone swings everything out of whack.
Your talking about the women Amazon warriors lol they have super strength and after reproducing with men that child grows up in a fews days the only way that female could fully be a warrior is to kill her father with the Amazon blade that gives them strength lol... I know I know I used to love my comic books !
Probably need to have a limit on how many women can get pregnant. Do the women go back to work right after they give birth?
What do they do with the baby boys? Do they only keep the baby girls?
How can they procreate? Assuming that just happens anyways because "magic" then sure they can. But then because if their hard labors like heavy lifting and other things, i'm sure they'd evolve to have more testosterone and become basically just like men only with vaginas.
No, frankly no.
A kingdom of only women would soon enough realize that pretty much all the occupations that keeps it running from farming, sanitary, power, distribution etc are jobs done by men and quite frankly doesn't pay and are too heavy for the pay it offers.
Women would sooner bicker among themselves then shut up and do the job.
No just as a kingdom of men alone could not survive. We are intelligently designed to thrive together in one Union.
I just see the picture with the rapier, I say YES. YES, Give me two of those things. Queendom, make it happen! Reportin' for duty!
If you had any idea what it takes to make this world run, you'd know that it is only possible because if men.
To respond to your update:
In a world without women, men would be unhappy.
In a world without men, women would be dead.
How exactly is there a mating season with babies being born if there are only women?
Ah yeah, I missed that part, hun. :)
Would the surrounding kingdoms have similar technology men?
Absolutely.
Matriarchal societies have existed since the dawn of humankind.
I'm oddly disgusted by the sole thought of it. No Thanks.
@joygirl Cool question and Obviously yes. A human is a human.
It would do great! I’d love that. In Greek myth the Amazons were like that.
