How do the bad students at school make themselves appear scary?

I thought this would end well after high school, boy was I wrong. I don’t know how they do this, but the very bad students seem to always put fear into others regardless of their size. I just don’t get it. What exactly are they doing which causes others to fear them?

What do you mean by “bad”? Are you talking about the ones who score poor grades? Or are you talking about bullies?

If you’re talking about the latter, then bullies are insecure. They have low self-esteem and gain an ego boost by bullying weaker kids and making them feel inferior. They’re not actually scary. They probably have shitty parents and/ a rough life at home.

Not the bullies. They aren’t scary. For me the other latter is the one who has nothing to lose and is very aggressive..

The kids who are drug dealers, fight, steal from others. They aren’t necessarily bullies.

As I recall the kids in high school that were bullies all ended up being bums. I lived in a town that really went down hill fast. Lots of crime and dropping property values. Most people who could afford it moved someplace else. I used to do some business there and used to see some of these losers walking around downtown. It was obvious that their lives did not turn out that great. They really did not look too scary anymore.
