I have two daughters and they both don’t drive. One has poor vision and a health problem, the other wanted to learn but saw many too many accidents and later became afraid to! I wish she’d give it a try but then people here drive like maniacs too
@Amy10223 shit i live in Cali and everyone drives like dummies here too almost and u got undocumented people who dont know how to drive, driving out here too and when they hit you they illegal they got no insurance so i feel that but if your a good defensive driver u never get into accidents unlews someone is clearly under the influence
Fuentes you can be a great defensive driver and get hit by people whose heads are elsewhere when you're driving legally and carefully. I was hit 3 times in three years by people who ran red lights, t-boned me from another lane, turned into me because they were in a jacked up truck and couldn't see me in my Corolla. Defensive driving only helps so much.
When you've got people who aren't paying attention for whatever reason, you can't defend against that.
But I DO agree that getting your own car means you do not have to rely on asking for rides and wearing out your welcome or getting into a situation with someone who's offering you a ride for an ulterior motive. It's not about her not having a "desire to drive." It's about the functionality of having reliable transportation.
If the buses/trams were regular and available from 5 am to midnight and safe and clean. Nobody would need a car and not having a "desire to drive," would be reasonable. I hope it gets that way. Driving is a responsibility and is costly.
@Screenwriter I do wish my one daughter would learn to drive. She did get her permit and I would let her drive through parks and quiet streets on Sundays. She did well. Then after that, she witnessed with me a car upside a divider on one of NJ’s most dangerous highways. The car had hit the divider and was vertical on the divider. She must have seen other things because since then she didn’t want to learn anymore and took the bus everywhere. Her boyfriend drives them to places as well.
In a way I’m glad she doesn’t, because where I now live (she lives here too) young people are crazy with driving. Every other car you see here is damaged. Columbus, Ohio. The highways scare me here but I still go on them.
@Amy10223 Well I live in a relatively uncrowded area. I've heard places like NJ and near DC are tough to drive in. I've only witnessed the car crowds in Orange County Cali. Quite difficult, but I suppose you can get used to anything. However, she hss to do it. One accident might have scared the bejesus outta her. When she no longer has a boyfriend or you to ferry her, that might motivate her. Good luck!

I hate it. I always offer to drive my coworker home.. She never asks but I know she appreciates it..
Certain things I want to figure out on my own but for the most part, no.
Not at all.. I don't mind asking people pretty much anything..
