Guys, how should I go about indirectly apologizing for leaving this former boss in a lurch as I was more or less forced to leave his business?

Not due to anything I did. I was working for him & part-time at another job that had greater potential. I was an idiot for choosing the second job as, I learned later, there was never any appreciation.

But the second job really put me in a spot by essentially saying choose full-time or get lost. That was a red flag but at the time the benefits outweighed the negatives.

However, I'd like to explain to my old boss this situation - why I left - as though we have a decently good rapport and whenever I drop by he calls my name to chat, etc. this leaving the business still sort of hangs there. Or at least to me it does.
