The only thing I can think of is, my wife and I bought an 8' step ladder from Home Depot many years ago. It wouldn't fit in my car, so I put a blanket on the roof and tied the ladder down with the free twine that the store provided. It was weak twine, so I used a lot of it and thought the ladder was secure.
On the way home, we had to drive over a bridge and it got breezy. All of a sudden, the ladder came loose, flipped up and did a pirouette in mid air. The car behind us swerved to miss it. I'm glad the ladder didn't go through their windshield.
I had to finish crossing the bridge, get off, go back the other way, and then come back. We found the ladder lying on the shoulder of the road up against the center divider. So I stopped in the middle of traffic and managed to fit it in the car, much to the annoyance of people who had to stop and wait.
But it was sticking a LONG ways out of the passenger side window. Not good. I would have gotten a citation if a cop had seen us.
We drove the rest of the 15 miles home that way.
I use (and thus carry) a ladder at work most days, and I own 5 of them. Back when I installed satellite systems, we were required to have a 40' extension ladder for getting up to 3-story roofs, usually apartments or condos. That was a 3-man operation, and we avoided those jobs whenever possible.
We had a couple of falls off ladders over the years (smaller ones) but no major injuries. Still, it's not fun. I learned to reschedule or reject certain jobs for safety reasons - such as a new home with a bare yard that was just sticky clay mud - the ladder will sink and fall over. There were 3 ladder-related deaths in the industry in 2008, resulting in lawsuits that changed the whole industry.
Let me show you the kinds of crap we used to have to deal with, and why I would get called in because my company had a 40' ladder. This is another tech with a 32' ladder that wasn't tall enough, so he "solve the problem" by putting the ladder in the bed of his truck! This was death ready to happen.
If you hadn't seen it, you would hardly believe it, but stuff like that happens, and sometimes, people die.
I’m fortunate I live in a country where I don’t have to work dangerous jobs to support myself, some jobs are dangerous like fixing roofs or taking out trash, but the people who do those jobs are paid above their pay grade and you can hire help when your not trained to do those jobs. The only thing is, I find very poor countries have more selfless and loving people.
A couple times. Not like as shown in the picture, but I have a folding 8-foot ladder I carry in a service vehicle for burial funerals in case I have to go into an open grave and retrieve something someone (usually a kid) has thrown into it.
Thats interesting.
Maybe the wind blows trash in there. can't imagine what psycho is throwing trash in there

Yes, when I was in college, during the summers I ran my own one-man house-painting company. I often carried around a 28-foot aluminum extension ladder that allowed me to reach the highest parts of the house. The key is finding the balance point in the middle, because the ladder itself is really not that heavy, and you have to be carful on your turns, because the ladder is very long ad can easily hit things.
I did have a bit of a problem with a plank 🙄
https://www.youtube.com/embed/aUbcaE44cSwI have carried extension ladders, but I carry them on my side and stand near the center. Nothing funny has ever happened though because I am careful to not hit stuff.
depends on what you call a long ladder, having a horse means that sometimes I have to move a ladder to get some hay, its like how tall is a tall Chinaman, or how wide is a river,
Yes I have carried long ladders. Mainly extension ladders.
I also belong to the local fire company.
Getting too old to climb, so I bought a man or woman lift.
Yes I have a 24 extension ladder on my work van I use a the time. To carry it I stand it up the lean it back on my shoulder and balance it to carry it.
I have carried a long ladder but it was a little bit shorter then that one.
One time I climbed up a ladder
And I heard something splatter.
It was diarrhea.
I have carried one many times but nothing funny happened
