What is a MacGuffin for a major event or episode in your life?

In storytelling, a MacGuffin is a plot device, usually an object (it can also be a person, place, or event) that advances the plot, but is not necessary to the resolution.

With that said, what was a MacGuffin for you that instigated a major life event or episode?

My MacGuffin

For me, it was a St. Louis Cardinals ball cap. This triggered a gleefully condescending monologue while out to breakfast with some friends and associates about my Chicago Cubs beating those goofy amateurs into and subsequently winning the 2016 World Series. While I'm in the middle of this, in walks this lovely young woman from an area highly populated by Cardinals fans. She didn't like that too much 🤣

Anyway, she still friended me on Facebook. A few months later, I asked her out. A year and a half after that, I asked her to marry me, which she did six months later. Two months after that, "Hey! Guess what?"

So, what was a MacGuffin for you?

I really like your story, but I don’t think I’ve let any object influence my decisions in life, on a scale, as such.

I could pick something general in society, like a stock market or college, and then try to relate it to something more specific like a bank or college object. 🤷‍♀️

Or something quite simple like a birthday gift of shoes given to me, so it led me to wear them? Lol

Thanks for MHO! To make a very long story short, it was during a Jewish burial (at Mt. Moriah, since you know the area). It was my husband's grandfather's funeral; it was where my husband first saw me, he vividly remembers me, but I don't remember him. During the brief service and before the casket was brought to the gravesite, a young boy threw a rubber chicken into the open grave. I jumped in, retrieved said rubber chicken, and emerged from the grave no worse for wear (I've got skills). It left an indelible impression on my husband, who immediately recognized me during a training a class at a National Guard Armory (it turns out he was assigned to the same battalion, but not the same company). The rest is history, but it took us a while to actually start dating.

I had impacted wisdom teeth. I was planning on moving to Colorado maybe forever and wanted to have my wisdom teeth extracted before I went. It took about a week before the swelling went down. I called the kid I was supposed to be going with and his mother told me he left without me. I was pissed but a week later I was still in town to meet my future wife at the beach.
