Well it’s going to be -5 F (-20 C) here in a few days. So outdoors, cover everything! Inside, sweaters, turn on the gas fireplace, space heaters where necessary during the day. At night the heat goes down to 55 F (12 C). So we have a heated mattress pad and a down comforter so we can cuddle naked. Just one thing to love about winter!

+1 yHot chocolate (that's a must!), wrap up in a cozy blanket, and turn my heater on... oh, and crawl into bed and not move unless I have to!
It's simple, but I love cold weather so as long as I'm comfortable, I can take cold. It's the heat I can't stand.21 Reply

+1 yI use two layers of blankets while sleeping in cold conditions and I use a soft quilt to cover my body when I’m on the couch and I wear pants with my night gown if the house is unusually cold. In the summer, the night gown is used for modesty and discretion and not for warmth and comfort.

+1 yI bare (bear) knuckle box a polar bear. When he has been defeated I wear him like a big furry tuxedo. When my makeshift polar bear-wear begins to cool off I go find another and box it with my now bear hands and repeat the cycle until spring. Or alternatively, I hug a hobo

lol, Big mistake moving west. The north part of the state is already cold enough for me, I can't imagine going farther north than that.
- +1 y
because now you have to deal with more cold lol.
I'm definitely not equipped to deal with the cold. everytime it drops bellow 70°F, I die. - +1 y

I would need to wear 7 coats to make that work - +1 y
That's depressing lol. maybe I could use it as a hand warmer at least while the rest of my body turns into ice?

we could also bulid a massive coat united out of all the coats.
but yeah, I'd have to buy myself one if I ever move north out of the state. sadly, nearly every clothing in the adult woman section would make me look like a toddler who just snuck into her mom's closet - +1 y

+1 yHot water bottles. I hide them under throw blankets in the house for the pets. We like to keep the temp down lower in the 60’s. When moving around you don’t need heat, but the bottles are great for snuggling.

This past week it’s been so cold when I go to bed, and family is already long up starting their days. I let my little dog sleep with me (she’s normally in her crate bed) but had a bottle too. By the time I crawled in she was laying under blankets and right over the bottles cover snoring her head off. Hot little furnace herself, so happy, and so loud. I almost recorded it. Cracked me up!

+1 yI wear warm clothes, I turn on the heater, and I cover myself with 2 big blankets. If I'm outside I wear a big warm jacket and gloves. I have a scarf but my big jacket is so warm I don't need to wear a scarf or gloves heck I didn't even wear socks today and I was still warm. 🤣
10 ReplyI have an 8x8 foot crate of firewood. It's temperature and humidity controlled, with heat lamps and a humidifier. The wood stays nice and dry, so that most of the energy in burning it goes to radiant heat, as opposed to boiling the water inside the wood. My fireplace burns it 24 hours a day.
