+1 yI’m Canada we go through 3 stages.
G1- is a learners permit. I got it when I was 16.
G2- means you’re allowed to drive with restrictions. I got it when I was 17.
G- full license. I got it at 18.
It was a process for sure. I definitely will say I failed a couple times.23 Reply- +1 y
Is it the same G system in every province or did you get yours in Ontario?
- +1 y
@DermalPunch Ontario 😆 most provinces have 2. Learners permit and license.
- +1 y
Yeah. I'm from Ontario originally so I'm lkke hold up. It's not the same in every province.

u +1 yLearner's permit at 15, operator's license at 16.
10 Reply I easily passed my permit test at 15 and knew how to drive well enough. The problem was that auto insurance for a teenager was like $7,500 a year back then which was like half my income at my night job. Everyone in a household that had a drivers license has to be insured or they revoke the entire household's insurance. So my parents were like either cough up $7,500 or move out if you want a license. So I waited until 18 when insurance rates dropped down to roughly $2000 before getting my license and driving a car regularly. In the mean time I saved and invested my money. Now my auto insurances is roughly $500 a year. I’ve still never had an accident or any insurance claim. Insurance rates are ridiculous. It’s extortion… Nice car… It would be a shame if something were to happen to it. Why don’t you pay us 50% of the take, and maybe things will go easy for you...

Your insurance is $500 a year? That’s the dream right there.

@musicbrain5
Mine is about $270 per year. - +1 y
@WindAtMyBack Wow. I live in Ontario, Canada and the average annual rate here is anywhere from $1600 to $2000 CAD. But it’s all affected by where you live (lots of areas with insurance fraud, especially around my city), gender, age, type of car, class of license, how long you’ve been driving, your driving record, tickets and convictions, demerits on your license, how many people are on the policy, etc. I’ve been driving for 16 years now but I have one at fault accident & claim from 2 years ago so I pay about $3700/year unfortunately. When I had a perfect record, I was paying $2000/year. It should go down again when I renew though.
- +1 y
@musicbrain5 Ouch! Yeah it's a combination of a clean driving record, getting older, immaculate credit, company loyalty, moving to a lower population county that has very low crime, etc.

@musicbrain5
My neighbor has a 17 year old kid they just added to their insurance. It was cheaper adding to their policy than buying his insurance separately. I think they said his insurance was around $1000 a year. He's in the highest risk age group and the most expensive.
My insurance does not include collision. I only have liability, but it's a couple tiers up from the mandatory minimum. I'm 66 which is probably the lowest risk age group. I've been with the same company for over 20 years, and I've never had a claim with this company. Actually I haven't had any claims with any companies since I was a teen and on my parents insurance.

+1 yI got my license at 16, as did everyone I knew. To get it at 16 you had to take driver's ed. They had the class at school, and almost everyone took it. In the winter snow our teacher taught us to do donuts and 180 degree spins (where you are going one direction and spin 180 and slide backwards).

+1 y16. But I was driving when I was 13. My grandpa taught me to drive stick on a VW Karmann Ghia. Parallel parking and holding it on a hill on dirt roads outside their cabin in the middle of nowhere.
Oddly enough I inherited the same Ghia and now teach my wife and kids with it
