It is important to note that pedophilia refers to a psychiatric disorder characterized by an adult's sexual attraction to prepubescent children. Acting upon these attractions is illegal and harmful to children. Society rightly condemns and criminalizes child exploitation and abuse. No point of discussion. Do you think we should destigmatize pedophilia? In my opinion we should not.

Louis CK has a bit on this where he points out that if that were the case there would be less murdered children because right now they are always also murdered because it doesn't make sense to do anything other than that.
I would have liked to have linked a clip but the internet only cares about scandal so its needlessly difficult to look up anything Louis CK related.
Not sure how you would destigmatize a thought or why it is necessary to do so since you can have any thoughts you want as long as you don't act on them. The only ones who want to control thoughts are the Democrats, and they are all pedos anyway and beyond redemption.
The idea of taking of advantage of someone that is unaware and inneocent and defenseless isn’t exactly promoted. Destigimize to allow to get help before is good but being able to take the initiative and self control is hard because there is exact point to know when you should get help.
I think it is destigmatized for a trained professional. That's why they're a professional. Telling friends and family no it's not. That's just my opinion, but my gut tells me even the nicest of people would judge you if you told me you had thoughts like this even if you'd never act on it.
The issue is too many will read into the message and think u are trying to make excuses fir them or trying to allow them to get away with it as for most the word pedophile already means someone that touches kids
But thats my point it requires people to come at the conversation level headed with I can don't believe people will instead you will battle with claims of trying to make it OK to be a pedophile and not what the core of the conversation is about
True but the issue is I belive there are more people that would see it that way then see the true reason u are doing it and with how mob mentality is that would become the speaking point
kill them all. They ruin people's lives who don't even have a chance to make a decision about it. You have to be crazy to even think that any of that is normal
The problem is the natural progression. "It wasn't abuse, it was consensual".
We don't let kids under 16 get tattooed or piercings other than ears in most countries, because of the potential for regret because they can't fully comprehend the impact in later life. But they can consent to sex with an adult or gender mutilation procedures?
It's a shorter step than anyone thought these days...
Yes this question is controversial, but it's a question of substance in the context of the ongoing mental health crisis, regardless of whether or not I agree with her argument and conclusion. Leave her alone.
Go find some Anonymous user's "Is My 18 Inch Penis Big Enough For My 69 Virgin Girlfriends?" type question and deal with that crap clogging the site.
@Smashingdoozy You're welcome. I don't need to agree with the premise of posted content to recognize when something posted is meant to be thought provoking and substantive.
Obviously I also enjoy the various satire and nonsensical content on this site. I've supplied more than my fair share over the years. However you can't censor controversial content. GaG is an opinion forum.
Yes exactly I also don't disagree with your opinion. The whole study of pedophiles is incredibly controversial for good reason and not a topic people like to discuss.
Unfortunately I believe that there are certain parts and aspects of the human brain that are irretrievable when broken, like with serial killers. Maybe someday science will be able to definitively change that, but it's pretty safe to say that right now we're not at that point yet.
That is the point of Dr. Patient privacy. Obviously if a person is having these thoughts and haven't acted upon them, then they haven't done anything wrong. But yes It still would be a very scary subject to open up about to someone even if they are their to help you learn to fight it and hopefully cure you from thinking those things.
Let's in any case keep our eyes open to avoid abuse. What is sure is that we should learn to consider pedophilia with more objectivity according circumstances.
I'd like to add that no one is responsible for having feelings. Wisdom consists to aknowledge whatever feelings we have, and to act accordingly with discernment. I mean that we are always, and in any case, responsible for how we act in the real world.
You say pedophilia can be managed through psychotherapy and medication. I've seen no evidence of that. In contrast psychotherapy has been shown to be ineffective.
It's a little bit more complicated than just a single link. You actually have to read quite a few things over a fairly long period of time to understand how this works.
That may be true in some cases but not all whether you believe or not there are some bad people in this world that set out with malice in their heart with the intention of hurting people
I wasn't aware that there was any like that. This is why I love chatting with you cause you always look at things from a different perspective which forces me to do the same.
Dr. Kirk Honda is a psychology professor that did an interview with a non offending minor attractive person on YouTube. It has a lot of information if you wan to check it out.

If pedophilia wasn't stigmatized, how would pedophiles know it was wrong? Why would they want to seek help? They could just say that it's normal.
Because not being stigmatized doesn't mean it's socially acceptable
Isn't that the same thing?
Nope
The issue is too many will read into the message and think u are trying to make excuses fir them or trying to allow them to get away with it as for most the word pedophile already means someone that touches kids
That's he point of destigmatizing it. So people see them as two separate types of people. Most people with pedophilia have never acted on it.
But thats my point it requires people to come at the conversation level headed with I can don't believe people will instead you will battle with claims of trying to make it OK to be a pedophile and not what the core of the conversation is about

Tell me you didn't read the description
No.
If the last decade has proven anything, it's that you can't give people like that an inch without giving up a mile.
Anyone touches my son and they won't get to trial.
Tell me that person is just "minor attracted". I dare you.
Nobody is saying people who sexually abuse children shouldn't be punished.
The problem is the natural progression. "It wasn't abuse, it was consensual".

I understand your goal is to mean well here, but it's far too much of a Pandora's Box. The answer is absolutely not.

If someone feels attraction to children but doesn't act on it, how would anyone even know?
Mostly I agree with you. We all have thoughts of harming others that we do not act on.
That is the point of Dr. Patient privacy. Obviously if a person is having these thoughts and haven't acted upon them, then they haven't done anything wrong. If only to make it easier to track and hunt them down like the monsterous subhuman-animals that they are,

There is plenty of evidence...
Nah.
There literally is countless studies showing it helps.
Enough of your gaslighting already.
@AngryCarl2 and you know this how exactly?
@you probably do not read Psychiatric journals so how would you see it?
@msc545 If you can provide me a link I will read it.
It's a little bit more complicated than just a single link. You actually have to read quite a few things over a fairly long period of time to understand how this works.
I think it should be. People just automatically associate pedophilia with someone being a child molester which isn't always the case.
For people who have an inclination towards this and other evils but who do not succumb and who request help, yes, it should be given with compassion.
Nope that shit is sick and should be viewed just the way it's viewed
Destigmatizing doesn't make something okay just makes it easier for people to access the help they need.
I think even if they had to help they wouldn't take it it's a choice the help is here and there choosing to not take it
Because of the stigma and not knowing how to access it.
That may be true in some cases but not all whether you believe or not there are some bad people in this world that set out with malice in their heart with the intention of hurting people
Of course.. I'm not talking about those people though. I'm talking about the ones who don't want to hurt people
I wasn't aware that there was any like that. This is why I love chatting with you cause you always look at things from a different perspective which forces me to do the same.
I swear I didn't know that you just taught me something
I think they do need a therapist to talk to but I also agree with what @NYCQuestions1976 said.
