55 Years And Older Retirement Community

Florida has a massive retirement population. Some call Florida “God’s waiting room”. One very large retirement community that is well known is The Villages. Republican Presidential candidates have to stop there as its that important. Its larger than Manhattan and I just read they built 1,960 new house in the first six months of this year.
Everyone uses decorated golf carts to get around, its friendly, and active.

Do you have such things in you area?

Anyway, here are some links if you haven’t heard of it. This first video is 3 years old and now out of date but even at that time The Villages was the largest active retirement community in the world. I wouldn’t live there as I have other places to be but it does seem interesting and popular.

i was there once it's creepy as fuck. i go everywhere all the time and meet all kinds of people and they're usually incredibly nice but at the Villages the people are kind of cult-like and aloof

everyone has these elaborate golf carts or "golf cars" as i guess they call them, they ride around in, if you're going to the grocery store or lunch at a restaurant you ride your golf cart

they have these 3 car garages and the third garage door is small for the golf cart. and the main topic of conversation tends to be the golf carts, no kidding

it costs a fortune to live there but for the same money you could live in a very nice house on the beach without 10,000 neighbors in your business

The Villages is in the middle of nowhere in the center of Florida between Disney World and the University of Florida, about as far from the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico as you can get, so all you're left with are the unbearable heat and humidity in a state people go to specifically to live near the water. in other words, it might as well be in Iowa

i'm amazed these kinds of over-planned elderly communities haven't popped up all over the country, but, not for me

Great assessment. We went there once just fro lunch as we were driving through. They were aloof, spot on. We had neighbors move there and I alway thought they were a bit strange. I will say people did use the squares and seemed to be having fun. I think the original retirement community that started all this was one in Arizona, Sun City I believe. In some ways, I think they are reliving their childhood where they rode a bike to their friends house, now a golf cart, and just rode all over town. Its not for me.

Yeah even though I'm I the UK my friends bought a holiday home there after selling the one in Kissimmee, because their kids and grand kids have out grown Disney etc. And they wanted to play more golf, I've even been over there and stayed with them for a few weeks

The Villages have 648 holes across their many golf courses. Unbelievable. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed your trip there.

That’s what I heard. Some 70s something guy didn’t live there in a house but lived a van. He got more tail than most 20 somethings. They did an article on him.
