Thank you KFC
Which one is the better comfort food - Macaroni and Cheese or Mashed Potatoes and Gravy? And why?
Thank you KFC
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. Makes me think of Grandma.
Tough choice! I'm going to go with Mac n cheese.

Mashed potatoes and gravy every time for me; I'm actually not a big fan of KFC or fried chicken in general (more of a baked chicken lover with an especial love of Buffalo Wings) but the mashed potatoes and gravy are my favorite there.
Mac & Cheese always gets old to me really fast. It's something I like to eat as a very small side dish when I have a craving, but I can go through massive scoops full of mashed potatoes and gravy.
As for why, I had to think about this for a bit. Something I've found is that animal fats tend to fill me up really quickly. For example, I'm the only one in my friend group who isn't a fan of Wagyu steaks (even the highest grade) so much despite their popularity here in Japan. I'm more of a USDA prime type of steak guy. I actually like things on the leaner side with less fat and enjoy some chewiness, not melt-in-the-mouth tender, but most of all I think very fatty animal products fill me up faster than most people and so I can only enjoy the smallest portions.
I think that might be the case for me with Mac & Cheese. I start to quickly get sick of the cheese. If I just have a very teeny portion like a 2-3 tablespoons full, I'm good, but most of the portions I get are usually too much and I get sick of it.
On the flip side, gravy is pretty fatty too so it might not be the actual reason. I'm really not sure. I will have to explore this more deeply and try to search for more possible patterns.
One thing in Japan is that psychotherapeutic techniques aren't very popular, so I've studied a lot of psychotherapeutic techniques on my own to try to become my own self-therapist.
I think I've gotten most of my mental issues under control (especially after quitting drinking last year), but I'm still curious about these types of questions like why I prefer mashed potatoes and gravy so much more than macaroni and cheese. I might need the help of a professional to explore exactly the reasons why.
A possible pattern is that I do enjoy foods very rich in potassium, starting with potatoes but also avocados, pomegranates, spinach, tomatoes, legumes, and so forth. They're some of my favorite foods and I enjoy potatoes in all their varieties (with the exception of sweet potatoes; I'm not the biggest fan of sweet potatoes or sweet foods in general): baked, mashed, fried, etc (with the exception of potato chips; I'm not a big fan of potato chips either, perhaps because a lot of the fiber content is lost)
Actually now I'm so confused because I seem to love potassium-rich foods but not potato chips and sweet potatoes so much.
I might be able to write a computer program to help me figure this out using data mining techniques like K-Means Clustering. If I input all my favorite foods and their nutritional values and perhaps even flavor profiles, I might be able to find patterns through the centroids and figure out the exact reasons why I enjoy things like mashed potatoes and gravy more than mac & cheese.
I'd take mashed potatoes any day of the week and twice on Sundays...
I do think however you got the best choice, going with both...
Mashed Potatoes and Onion Gravy, and not the artificial additive junk from KFC! I make it fresh, it takes me less time to make it, and its cheaper than going to KFC
macaroni n cheese
I find gravy overrated
Macaroni, I donβt think anyone would try to comfort themselves by downing microwaved Platypus ovaries covered in Capybara diarrhea
Potatoes and gravy with lots of cracked black pepper and cajun seasoning!
Mashed potatoes easyyy
I'm not sure what comfort food is.
Something easy to make, simple, tastes good and makes you feel at home π
@FunkyMonkee
It's food that makes you feel all warm and cozy and comforted.
Kinda like when you're sick. Homemade chicken soup is a great comfort food for a sick person to make them feel better.
Don't you have a favorite food someone used to make for you that was special and made you feel good inside.
Like granny's homemade scalloped potatoes or homemade chocolate chip cookies or homemade potato salad?
Get the idea? π
Other than Jewish penicillin, I've never thought of food as any kind of comfort device.
My fave foods would be breaded chicken, bacon and tapioca. Oh. and a Vinnie pie, of course.
Love both but prefer the mac n cheese.
Mac and cheese, I don't like mashed potatoes
Depends on your mood for the moment
