Whats the most drastic managerial decision you have seen in your workplace so far?

[FOR PRIVACY REASONS, I SHALL NOT BE DISCLOSING ANY SENSITIVE DETAILS. ONLY WHATEVER HAS BEEN MADE PUBLIC BY THE COMPANY ITSELF]

So, I was at the verge of losing my job a couple of weeks back, and I was reaching out to people for referrals since my inexperience was a major hindrance for me.

I was working in a cross-functional team and it was so small that each person had their own responsibility. It so happened (which I expected as well), me being the most inexperienced developer of the team (~1.5 years of experience) was let go first. We, as a team, were fully aware of the consequences it would have on the project, but the management did not. I was let go and all hell broke lose 🤣.

I knew there were a couple of things that could've happened following my release, but I never anticipated what actually happened.

It was a highly profitable project for the organisation, so the most likely option would've been to take me back (as it would've been most economical) or else have someone else fill in my shoes (which meant paying them more for their experience+expertise as well as getting the person trained for the project... extra effort), and lastly - the most unlikely option - the company will incur the losses.

And that's what happened, which was unbelievable for me. They literally axed 1/4th of their customer base and are likely to lose their entire customer base by June or so (unless they have some other plans). I'm not sure about the future, but this decision of cutting off 1/4th of their customer support, inspite of how profitable this product was, blew my mind.

I guess there have been other incidents which are even more ridiculous 😂 like Elon firing the Twitter employees, but this happened with me so I felt this a lot more
