I wish we were even allowed to have our own washer and dryer. The on-site facilities are awful, and my OCD makes it very difficult to get mine done. It finally crossed the line into traumatic last time, now that the one who rules this place with an iron fist and a stone face started locking it overnight for her own use first thing in the mornings, and using it well past the time she unlocks it. It caused me such severe distress last time that I can’t talk about it much. OCD is generally dismissed as nothing, and I don’t think there’s any law against what that witch does.
To answer the question, I would have a top-loader, and it would have to be a vintage unit that will last, same with the dryer.

Front loading washers are inconvenient unless you put a pedestal beneath them. They usually have a smaller capacity and are more difficult to keep clean. But they tend to not twist laundry into coils, too.
I like top loaders. I find front loaders to be smaller and take a lot of space. Especially when opening out instead of up.
I've used front loading machines all my life even when I was leaving in Europe. That's what I'm most used to.

Though the newer front loaders might be easier to load, that's where the ease ends.
After every wash you have to wipe the water seal dry with vinegar to keep mold away.
After a wash with a top loader, you simply leave the washer open for a few hours and it dries out. There is no water sloshing against the seal every wash. So the only maintenance is the "clean washer" cycle every 20 or so washes.
I don't want a washer I have to wipe off every time I use it or it smell musty and develops problems. Who needs extra work?
i'd go for a top loader. unless your living space demands that you put stuff on top of your washing machine. because a top loader washing machine typically takes less space for the same washing volume. plus they typically last longer, cause the front loading sealing gaskets are way more prone to leakage.
I get that front loaders use less water, but they are difficult to the point of near impossible to do it yourself repair. The top loaders can be fixed with ease.
Top load washer and front load dryer is usually customary. But if you want to stack them both are front loaders.
I'm very frugal. I bought a washer and dryer for $50.00. Total. I replaced a $5.00 part for the dryer and that's the only maintenance I have done to either. Both top loaders and owned for 5 years.
Front loaders and most are fairly easy to maintain.
we do not get top loaders apart from cheap onesTop load is great for me as a tall man with long limbs. I think front loaders are better for shorter people or people with limited space, limited mobility. Possibly. I'm not an expert 😭😆
I've noticed fewer issues with front-loaders.
In Europe most washing mashines are front loader, I've never seen a top loader.
Front loader washer and dryers are more efficient and use less water.
I prefer front load washing machine if I ever buy it in the future.
It's energy efficient and uses less water.
Top loader. The front loaders cost more and have more problems and they leak.
I had a front loader at one time. Didn't care for it.
Top loader doesn’t shake as much and you don’t need to bend down to put clothes in
Top. A front loader seems likes it's just buying trouble. It's like buying a convertible is a snowy prone climate.
Top loader. They last far longer as for home use. Also much cheaper.
top loading is way easier.
