Do you appreciate random flattery?

Hey Guys and Gals,

While I've always been able to offer or appreciate a genuine compliment, I detest when someone offers fake random flattery to get something out of me. It's not something I do to folks, and so it's not something I expect to receive either. Maybe it's just me being an old purist... I don't know... Any thoughts?

Hmm... I personally feel like women have that issue more so than men. From my experience and observations, we don't usually get random flattery to get something out of us. It's usually genuine compliments.

I've always appreciated any flattery as I value words of affirmation quite a bit. Whether it's about my intelligence or knowledge, my personality, or my appearance, I always appreciate it. I'd like to hope that none of the compliments I've received were lies 😅

Women probably get a lot more random flattery to get closer to them and I've seen guys throw compliments that they don't necessarily mean to girls to get a conversation going.

I don't know about that. I've seen girls flatter guys shamelessly to get something... And the guy believes it blindly, perhaps if they're starved for compliments. I don't know, tbh. But I've seen a girl compliment a guy to get help around the house, or help with work, or a ride home, etc. etc. etc. YES, guys do compliment girls often because of the "get in your pants" factor, but that's sort of obvious for the most part. What's becoming very common is workplace flattery, which then gets all tangled up (as we see on GAG) and is misinterpreted as romantic interest.

Everyone values genuine affirmation, but random flattery about one's looks or deeds... I don't know, it seems suspect to me.

It's definitely suspect, but for me... other than trying to get with me, I don't see a reason why anyone would even try to fake flatter me. And from my point of view, I'm not exactly the highest on the dating market at the moment, so I doubt anyone would ever give me fake flattery. Maybe once I become more successful in life, I'll see it more often 😂

Hmm... I know you're starting a business... As your business flourishes, see if folks suddenly flatter you to get something for free or for a discount or for a job...

I can understand the fairer sex only appreciating flattery when it’s sincere and from they’re significant other but yeah I think guys maybe more susceptible generally speaking The amount of times women / girls will use this to their very advantage with guys I think is proof of that. Me personally , depends… do I like the person? Do I even respect their judgement , am I attracted to them? But mostly I pay attention to the delivery. In general though yes I think I do appreciate it

I think you’re right… esp the young guys. Some woman flattered one of the guys from my class earlier for opening a door like a gentleman and he blushed a deep red.

When its a random woman, especially an older one or one I am not attracted to, it might as well be my mom saying it to my 28 year old self in public. Its received comfortably. But if its your boss, significant other’s coworkers, an attractive single woman, or your kid’s parents or friends it might still be awkward but it sure helps your confidence, especially on a rainy day.

Depends, if she's using some obvious bullshit flattery to get my attention from a humorous perspective, then she may catch my attention.
