The best way to handle a narcissist is simply to ignore them.
If you're in a relationship or marriage with one, leave them. And cut all ties if possible.
They thrive on attention, negative attention too, and you can't reason with them.

That's the truth right there, but many people won't accept it because of society's bizarre conviction about "The One". People think a narcissistic partner can't be easily replaced because she seemed like "The One" early on in dating. Then they seek to protect their emotional investment by rationalising the decision to stay: "oh its better to fix something broken from the inside, if I dump her then I'm just a quitter". In reality, reserving the right to leave is the only way to truly protect oneself against manipulative people. The manipulative person takes your good intentions and twists them in a way that you end up with nothing and they end up with everything. It's truly a zero sum game trying to placate a manipulator under the guise of "love" or, god forbid, "fairness".
