My girlfriend is a communist, what should I do?

So I thought my girlfriend was a sweet innocent typical American girl. However, when I went to her room last week for the first time, everything changed. In her room she has soviet propaganda posters hanging on her wall, a bookshelf filled with communist books, a miniature bust of marx and state pictures of Mao, Lenin and Ho Chi Minh on her desk. She even wrote her own manifesto about how communism should be spread throughout America. I confronted her about it, and she told me that she was a communist. I am currently the head of my college's young republicans faction. My reputation will be forever ruined if they learnt that my girlfriend is a filthy commie. What should I do?

Based on the track record of Capitalism, I'd listen to her. Why does communism still seem like such a dirty word to people in US. Karl Marx is looking far more prescient than Adam Smith given the past decade. To people who rave against Communism even know what it is they are raving about?

I think she could well be an independent thinker and god knows, we need any kind of thinker's in this country these days. Not ppl. who can vomit up what their idea of a philosophy/ economic theory they have in all likelihood, never read, never experienced and couldn't define. Simply learned to hate because their parent's probably felt that way.

What little anyone seems to know about Communism or Socialism is how it was manifested in the USSR. That wasn't communism, it was rob from the poor and give to the rich-exactly what Capitalism in the US currently is.

Read a fuckin book okay.

let me preface this with... i mean no disrespect but this is a Seinfeld episode right? lol. Have to admit, but it's kinda hilarious. Look man it's not gonna work because to be honest both ideologies are (kinda BS) way opposite of each other.

Serious advice i can give you? Break it off as EASILY as POSSIBLE. If Republicans hate anything more than any other political ideology is someone that fraternized with a known communist. You piss her off and she'll drag your name through the mud. I doubt she's really a communist to be honest.

Seriously though, you can just show her the toll communism has taken on Eastern Europe (assuming you're being serious...). Principles of communism ain't that bad but man, there's a reason why we celebrate anniversaries of overthrowing the communist regime like an alternative Independence Day over here (Poland). Communism isn't "filthy" per se as an ideology, as others have mentioned, it's got lots to do with Christianity actually. Both in principles and execution, unfortunately.

Honestly she should be ending it with you. You don't respect her opinions, nor does it sound like you even care enough to ask her why the sudden change. Maybe it's a phase, maybe not. But there are some good and bad sides to communism just like democracy and every other form of government. If you're that close minded that you would call a girl you love "Filthy commie" then you don't deserve any girl unless she's politically brainwashed like yourself.

Communism is much like Christianity.
In principle, they are both good.In principle, everyone is equal and has to work equally hard to get equal rewards.

In practice, neither of them work so well when they are controlled by a corrupt organization (as usually happens).Communist republics commonly became dictatorships, but there is no reason why they couldn't be democratic.

Communist dictatorships have killed or allowed the death of more innocent people than Christianity has (the Christianity toll is about 5 million).
The British government killed more people than Adolf hitler ever did;they just stopped doing it when there was less media exposure.Neither of them were communist.Capitalist societies aren't so good either.

If you can't accept her for having communist views, then why are you still with her?
