Boyfriend family speaks different language should I tell him that it is rude?

So me and my boyfriend have been together for the past nine months
Everytime when im around his family they speak macedoain... Which i dont understand. Ill be in te same room n they speak it or pretty much anywhere in the house they speak macedoian. And im probably spelling their language name wrong too
Well what in wondering is
Should i tell his family that i can't understand them or just sit there n look at my boyfriend n be like what they saying -_-
I feel soooo out of place

if they know that you don't understand the language and speak it anyways, even to you. I'd say thet's pretty rude.
Tell your boyfriend to clear things up.
I know from friends and their experience with east block culture, that they are very closed off. Do they approve of you not being Mecedonian?

You could also answer back in English every time they talk to you, asking them to speak English to you because they know very well that you don't understand. If nothing helps just start responding in Dutch.

This might sound bitchy but this is about mutual respect and acceptance. Don't let yourself be bullied, specially not his family, because like I said, they tend to want their sons to marry "their own"

Honestly. It's their house. I dated a croatian and his whole family spoke croatian while in their house. If I was curious about what they were saying, I would ask.

You can't expect a whole family to change the way they act in their own house because one person can't understand, and won't make the effort to learn a few words.

Ask his family to even HELP you with some words. I am sure they would be more than accommodating.

Long story short, it's disrespectful to ask an entire family to change because you dont like something.

My boyfriend's family does this too. He's Lebanese, they all speak English but insist on speaking Arabic around me. They all speak PERFECT English , but just can't when I'm there?
I still haven't said anything about it to them, myself. But I think we should say something to our boyfriends. I always imagine how he would feel if my family spoke a language he didn't understand around him. I would feel bad for him, so he should understand why it's rude.

Ok. Here's what I would do: Dont say anything to them about it and start taking Macedonian lessons at night school or start an online learning program.

Do this and still don't say anything. After a year or so you'll be getting some progress on your language skills and they will also be getting comfortable to say everything and anything about you while you're right there.

Still don't say anything even if you're hearing horrible things said about you and learn the language almost fluent.
Once you're there and you hear something bad said about you, then say what the fuck in mecedonian and go off on a tyrade at them all in Macedonian and take them all completely by surprise.
It will be classic!

If I were you I would ask him to translate for me lol I know I would if I were in front of my partner speaking khmer with my parents. I would pause in mid conversation and translate what was going on to him. I do find it rude in a way. They should talk to you in English to let you join in the topic of conversation at the very least.

And shhee knows i can't understand but still trys to speak it to me like preach it to me /: i know its rude but im dutch its like speaking dutch the whole time and them not being able to understand
