Boyfriend is obsessed with Instagram and all other social media, follows predominately girls that live in our area... Why is he so obsessed with this?

So my boyfriend of 6 months who does treat me good (we see each other everyday or every other day, we talk or text all day, he has met my family, I have met his family and his friends)... BUT he is obsessed with Instagram/Twitter/Snapchat... He is on all the apps, but mainly Instagram when I'm around, when I'm not around, is on it as soon as he wakes up and before he goes to sleep. He follows predominately women and likes and comments on their pictures, either bikini shots or just random selfies, mostly 20-something girls, yes they are good looking, and most live in our town. In the beginning of our relationship, I told him this bothered me, him being on these apps and following these women/girls and liking/commenting on their pictures. And he called me insecure. So I stopped telling him it bothered me and basically now look at it like this is what he likes to do (be on social media and give girls attention so maybe he can get some attention back by getting them to follow him or like his pics). I guess he thinks its entertaining to look at Instagram and like these pictures of these women. I will add that we don't have pics of each other on social media, and we are facebook friends, but no status changing (which is fine by me). All of our friends do know we are together, and I'm not big into flaunting my relationship on social media anyways. I do trust him and know he's not and would not cheat on me. But I just still don't get it... why do it? Is it really an ego boost to have chicks friend/follow you and like ur pics even though you have a girlfriend that clearly really likes and cares for u and spends time with u just about everyday. Just curious!

My boyfriend does somewhat the same thing. He loves Instagram and MassRoots. He tends to stay away from Facebook though because of all the drama. However, he doesn't comment on anyones photos (except for on MassRoots which is a totally different site entirely and doesn't really have too many photos of women on it). He follows a lot of females and a lot of females follow him. I think its mainly for an ego booster. I mean, it doesn't bother me at all. He isn't talking to any of the women and he isn't cheating either. He is being respectful of our relationship and that is all I care about. However, I know how irritating and kind of upsetting it can be when your boyfriend is constantly on social media. It bothers me sometimes but I try to not let it get under my skin too much where I know he is doing nothing wrong.

Unfortunately that's the only thing you can do lol My boyfriend was sitting beside me earlier while on Instagram and he was just scrolling away, stopped at this photo of a really attractive women and was checking her out. So my way of dealing with it (so I don't get upset) I will lean over and check her out with him. Maybe make a "Wow, she's gorgeous" comment. So I have found ways to kind of steer my anger and frustration away from the situation. Because even sometimes, while knowing he is doing nothing wrong, I still want to yell at him and be like "WTF you doing on social media when I am right here?" Like why do you gotta like every females photos ALL THE TIME? But I figure that that would be the most negative approach so I tend to just check them out to. Gives me peace of mind lol

he likes and I used to see heart eye comments or "nice legs" on a instagam fitness chick pics. But I stopped looking at what he comments. I've never looked through his phone. I just think the behavior is odd him following all these chicks lol
