Friends with benefit birthday wishes?

I got a guy friend i have been sleeping with we chat about once a week not necessarily about sex but he seem to be interested on what im doing at school. We have been friends for a year and we only had sex twice. I once asked him what do we call our relationship he said excitement. I recently found out he has a girlfriend he bought her gifts for her birthday and with me he never did, ow well i never told him when it was my birthday. I was so hurt when i saw that. I want to tell him that i want a real relationship if he can't give me that he should leave me alone, but is it ok to say it on BBM since he is always busy ( he is a docter)? Right now i feel used and im still mad at him as i sent him a text on Friday he only replied it on Sunday but he was the one who initiated conversation. Today its his birthday is it a good idea to wish him a happy birthday or i must just keep quiet? And how do i tell him that i want a relationship without sounding desperate?

you don't sleep with him first. not going to lie you kind of lowered your chances of a real relationship long term ever with your behavior. statistics don't lie. after just five partners the odds of a women staying married longer then 5 years is close to 20%

Yes you sound very desperate for the simple fact that you know his situation isn't idle for you and him to be in a relationship. You barely talk, he doesn't know your birthday, and he has a girlfriend and he knows her birthday, and he buys her gifts. You are the side piece sweetheart. That is your role, accept it. If you don't want that then you should stop allowing it, because I've never seen a person eat mashed potatoes as the main dish, when they have a steak.
