What do I do if ALL My best friends HATE my crush/guy friend?

so there's this guy and I kinda've been crushing on for awhile now.. All of my friends hate him for one reason or another. They say he's a jerk and that he's shady. I don't think that they know him as well as I do, but I've been wrong before. Everytime I'm talking to him, they try to hear what we're saying and/or give me dirty looks. I don't know what to do. I've asked them but they only said that he's a jerk. I don't get it. help.
