Guy says he needs to take a step back?

I've been dating this guy for about three months and everything had been going great. He had a parent pass away the week after I met him and when he returned from the funeral (out of state) we spent a lot of time together, almost three months. Now he says he has been way too emotional and needs to take a step back and we've stopped talking. I am just upset because I really liked this guy and we even talked about "our future together" now he says this, I'm hurt and confused?

Give him his space, if you really care about him. In an emotional time like this it would be so easy for him to find comfort in a relationship with you, that otherwise he may not have needed/ or just move way too fast. When his mind is more clear, and his heart is open he will be better able to make good decisions about how he truly feels. While your probably thinking, this is bullshit for me, it would actually be way worse, if you got really involved now, and then he changed his mind and blew you off. Giving him space will let him reflect on how good you have been to him, and how much you really matter to him. So just try to be supportive of him, and see where things go.

Ahh I just went through this with my boyfriend. He was having some serious problems (parents divorce, brother getting arrested twice, joining the marines) and we spent everyday together. Then one day, out of the blue, he texted me and said he "needed space". I was heartbroken because he didn't talk to me for two weeks. But eventually he came over and said he was sorry, but he really just needed to be by himself. I think your guy is doing the same thing. If he cares about you, then just give him space. He's not trying to hurt you, he's just trying to keep himself together.

We dated for almost 6 months so we were pretty serious. But when he said he needed space I just left him alone. I didn't text, call, or stop by once. Space means SPACE. I let him come to me because I didn't want him to think I didn't respect what he needed.

Maybe he's one of those people who get really emotional later on like his feeling just come out it takes time.I wouldn't worry about it much if you two have a strong connection already he already trusted you told you he needed some space.So just give him that space but let him know that ur still there if he needs anything sounds like you two do have something good going on good luck.

Perhaps he feel vulnerable or scared that he was so emotional with you especially earlier on in the relationship? Most guys are not good when it comes to their emotions and expressing them. Have you tried having a conversation with him about this? Obviously you guys have a strong connection and will only get stronger in time. I think like what the two girls have said as well, you should just give him some space. In the mean time, take care of yoyourself and do the things you love.
