Is it normal to be in a long time relationship and still not be on the same page?

My partner and I have been together for 5 years. He's been great, I got nothing bad to say about him. The thing is, from time to time, I miss the feeling of being alone that I actually broke up with him several times but we got back together (mostly because of his efforts). I have no plans of getting married or having kids or what have you, and he does. It scares me that we're not on the same page or that we're not headed in the same direction. He keeps telling me (and I think he's also hoping) that one day I might change my mind. I am too. But I don't feel like it will happen with him. We're long distance for a year (7months and counting) and that distance isn't really helping. I feel like I'm just wasting his time, but I just don't see any major reasons to break up. I don't know.

Any insight would be welcome. How would you approach it if you're the guy in question?
