What does he want from me?

Hi guys and gals … so I’ll try to not bore you with such a long story lol. So I really like this man a lot he’s 10 years older , divorced (long time ago) and has a kid. We have been seeing each other for 6 years and distance has been a big factor and family (parents) . But now recently it’s just been distance. We are both working successfully on our jobs , we both are family oriented, and we like each other a lot well that’s what I think he really has a hard time opening up to me. I’ve tried dating locally but didn’t work so I have just been on my own most of the time and for some reason he and I can’t let whatever we have going on go. I’ve mentioned to him that we should just be friends and not see each other but he doesn’t want that he always wants me around. He has a hard time opening up , he’s mentioned before that how he can be with someone he rarely sees? So I’ve been doing my part to make the time to see him just like he does for me. We haven’t label this , we enjoy each other’s company, I’ve held back on telling him these recent times that I like him (he knows) and he had told me he loves having me around. I don’t want to pressure him on LABELING this and ruin what we have already. For some reason we can let each other go I wish he would tell me how he really feels. I don't know if I’m doing wrong going with the flow of things and not labeling this. Sometimes I don’t get him either ugh has anyone been in this SITUATIONSHIP? Lol
