At this point I think that the chances of rekindling a relationship are slim. Of course, I think communicating with her would be nice. I don't know how recently you got out of prison, but if it was recent, and you can be friends, it would probably be nice to see a familiar face. But I wouldn't expect to become romantic again.

Talking with her would probably be especially good if it related to your son. I don't know the reason that your son is in care, but I know that a lot of the time the kid still gets to see the parents, and that it's good for them to have a relationship with the parents. It would probably be best for your son if both of his parents were on good speaking terms. Again, as friends, working together to support him.

As far as your dating life goes, your best option is probably to start fresh. Assuming your profile is accurate, you're young. So you have plenty of time. She seems to have moved on. You can too.

If the relationship was toxic then it's probably best to cut ties. I don't know why you'd want her back.

And I'm assuming based on your response that the adoption is closed. You can still sometimes talk to the kid if the adoption is open, but if you and his mom fought a lot, you don't need to talk to her to do that. You can meet him separately, if his adoptive parents are up for it. But I don't know if that's an option for you, or something you'd be interested in.

I'd say that it's probably best not to try to get your ex back. You'd be better off with someone new.
