How do I remain friends with a guy I still love?

I've known him a long time, but we were only in a relationship for 6 months. He ended it. He had feelings for me, but it wasn't love. He is with another girl now.

I still like him as a person and have remained friends with him. It's killing me inside, because I still love him. I'd never tell him in case he ended the friendship and I value our friendship still.

What's the best way to deal with this?

Did you two have sex and all that? Because if you did unfortunately I don’t think there’s a way for you to stop your feelings for him. You loved him and valued him as a life partner and you got a glimpse of what it was like. You love the kind of person he is. I think you should try to move on. You both unfortunately crossed the boundary of it just sticking to friendship level which will likely affect you when you are looking for another potential partner.

Yeah and sorry you have to deal with the selfishness of him trying to prolong something when the reason why you aren’t together is because of him, even if he means well it’s still selfish

I could stay friends with him, but it's too painful. I miss how we used to be, bit I'll miss our friendship.
He never talks about his new girlfriend, but it hurts knowing he chose someone else over me. The rejection has lowered my self-esteem. I guess I need to step back from the friendship and deal with the hurt first

Definitely do so because you are blocking the idea of finding someone new that loves the idea of being with you and that’s unfair to yourself!

That’s very tough. I think you need to distance yourself away from him for a bit, at least until the feelings settle down a bit… I personally wouldn’t be able to do it.
