My new girlfriend constantly talks about the importance of the 9 months period in a relationship. Does anyone know the exact meaning of this?
+1 yI don't know what it means exactly but I reckon she is referring to how long it takes to know someone/figure out if you like them. For me it's a 12 month period. Practically every relationship I had ended after 12 months because it's exactly how long it takes me to figure out if I like the person I'm dating. Aka it's the post-honeymoon phase!

It originates from the idea that it takes 9 months to give birth to a baby, a new life, a new relationship.

What Is the 9-Month Rule Relationship?
The 9-month rule relationship is a guideline that suggests that it takes 9 months for a person to truly get to know their partner and to develop a strong and healthy relationship.
This rule is based on the idea that it takes 9 months for a baby to be born, and just as a baby needs time to grow and develop, so too does a relationship.
The 9-month rule suggests that couples should take their time getting to know each other before making any serious commitments, such as moving in together or getting married. It is believed that this period of time is necessary in order to build a strong foundation for a lasting relationship.
While the 9-month rule may not be perfect, it is a good guideline to follow if you are looking for a lasting and healthy relationship. If you and your partner take your time getting to know each other and allow your relationship to grow and develop, you stand a much better chance of having a successful and long-lasting relationship.
Is 9 Months a Long-Term Relationship?
There is no question that nine months is a long time. It is, in fact, the length of a pregnancy. And while pregnancy is certainly a long-term commitment, it is not the only one. There are other long-term commitments that we make in our lives, such as to our jobs, our families, and our friends.
So, is nine months a long-term relationship?
The answer, of course, is that it depends. If you are in a committed relationship with someone who you see as a long-term partner, then nine months is definitely a long time. However, if you are simply dating someone and not necessarily looking for a long-term commitment, then nine months may not seem so long.
In the end, it all comes down to what you want out of a relationship. If you are looking for something long-term, then nine months is a significant amount of time. But if you are just enjoying the dating scene and not looking for anything serious, then nine months may not seem like such a long time.
What Are the Other Stages of a Relationship?
When two people first meet and start dating, they go through the initial stages of a relationship. This is when they are getting to know each other and are starting to develop a connection. If the relationship continues to progress, they will enter into the next stages of a relationship.
The next stage is when the couple starts to become more serious about each other. They may start talking about their future together and may even get engaged or married. This is when they are really starting to commit to each other and are building a strong foundation for their relationship.
If the relationship continues to grow, the couple will enter into the final stage of a relationship. This is when they are truly in love with each other and have a deep connection. They may have been together for many years at this point and have a strong bond. This is the stage where couples usually stay together for life.

+1 ySounds like that's her "deadline" for making a call on whether or not she wants to continue a relationship.
I have a kinda similar rule, as does a good friend of mine: at a certain time period, we check in with ourselves and our partner about the relationship.
At that point, our concern is figuring out if we have a future together or if we should separate.
I've reached this earlier in a relationship, at the 5 month mark, and called the relationship off.
Basically, if you want to keep her, make sure you're making it obvious before 9 months are up.
As for why, for myself I keep a 5-6 month self-check in because I had a bad habit of staying in bad relationships too long. So I have to have a deadline for making that call. This doesn't end on commitment, either - the question just changes to "counselling or divorce"?10 Reply
+1 yIt's a bunch of nonsense women use. Some of the longest lasting marriages I've ever heard of were done within a few weeks of meeting one another. if you act like an adult instead of pre-pubescent children all the time, you'd have successful relationship without all the idiotic mind games you people keep playing with one another.
By the way, 9 months means jack squat. You will NEVER truly know anyone, not even your closest lover. It's a historical and scientific fact you could be murdered by your own lover tomorrow or 20 years from now, or the very same person could be your one true love and work out for the rest of your life, and there's literally NO WAY to know the difference before then.
20 ReplyJust another coping strategy people use to emotionally satisfy themselves into thinking they are being moral or "a sensible person."
There is no time period in which someone "knows a person" inside and out. If you've ever had long-term friendships that lasted years, you'd know this. Every person evolves, and yeah, it sucks because it means we can't exert control over people and have 100% certainty we will influence who they are in the future, but that's what makes life interesting.
If I were a woman and I wanted to stress-test a dude in a fair setting to vet him for a long-term commitment, I'd get couples therapy. In there, you can both bitch and complain about the other and finally realize you're both just normal humans.

+1 yCongratulations it's not a girl or boy!
I would assume it's when you've reached the point in a relationship that should have fully blossomed into talking about marriage or at the very least moving in together if you haven't already moved in by the six month mark.00 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yFunny I had one ex girlfriend ghost me and never look back right at 9 months.
What she did was wrong. But I am discovering in recent years I have some deep childhood trauma that impacts my relationships with women. It’s something I have tried hard to bury and not impact my interactions with the woman I’m dating. However it does subconsciously sabotage.

+1 yIt probably means she read some dumb article about silly milestones and makes it sound like it's a 'thing'. Tell her it's crap, but that you're happy to go on a date on that 'anniversary' if that's what she wants.

Is that you? This is why there isn't anything that has more potential as sex appeal than a pregnant woman. And you provided quite a response the other night to some lucky soul player.

Thank you for having a mind and using it Nikki... All human "knowledge" is just ever evolving folk wisdom... the best we can do at any given moment... I always heard two full cycles of seasons, in reality it's however long it takes as we are organisms not mechanisms
+1 ySo it doesn't happen in 8? And isn't 10 better? Or 12? Why exactly 9? Did someone do a survey, a calculation, is there a study? Seems like a random number someone just made up arbitrarily.
