Eventually the partner would find out right? Small world isn't it?
Why would a man rather cheat and still be in a relationship than just break up and have fun?

The have your cake and eat it too, syndrome.
Some men have a wife who loves them and a girlfriend who loves them. They have sex and sneak around doing this and that with the side piece, but go home to the wife and kids. They like the "fun" of having the other woman and the security of having the wife and kids.
One without the other isn't enough. Being out there single and going home alone isn't what this guy wants. He wants to see his side piece when he feels like it for variety. He wants the family and traditional angle and wants to play when he feels like it. In many cases, the wife knows, but he comes home every night, and the girlfriend tolerates the situation because she has freedom.
So, everyone is participating in this arrangement. The man does it because he can.
Christopher Watts would be the worst of examples for your question.
It is a combination of the virgin whore complex with the Coolidge effect, the man wants sex with a new woman but does not consider her suitable for a long-term relationship.
Security and Risk endorphins combined.
