How do you deal with Saudade?

Saudade - Is a Portuguese word that is untranslatable.

It means

“Presence of Absence”

“Love that remains.”

“Saudade, is an experience of your essence, an emotional memory of a time when your soul was alive, and vibrantly so.”

I remember I listened to this Italian melody back when I was sitting on a balcony of my home in Georgia, looking out at the colorful views of the city and thinking how lucky and happy I was to have a family and an SO who loved me and supported me. I was thinking “Can life get any better than this? How did I get so lucky?”

It felt peaceful, happy and alive.

This is a really good question. It is really cool that the Portuguese have a word for this concept.

I have not moved very far away from where I grew up so there is hardly a day that goes by that I don't go by some place that holds a special memory for me. I try and think positively about it. I think I was lucky to have these experiences and they all contributed to make me who I am today.

I honestly doubt that "Saudade" has no translation. I guess it's a feeling that anyone can relate to regardless of their culture and/or language.

That being said, I deal with it sadness and regret. But I also deal with it with joy and gratefulness. It depends on what or who I'm missing and why.
