So my girlfriend of a year came home extremely upset with me due to me joking about how she got stuck at the dmv all day. When she left that morning for the dmv I asked of she had an appointment for it and she said no I don't need one. 3 hours later she texted me she was still stuck at the dmv. I joked about being stuck there and gave a little haha. Later that evening she was in tears because to her me and her mother were just laughing at her all day. This turned into a fight after I apologized and said I was also trying to make lite of the situation. She continued to get worked up and preceded to yell at me and compare me to her abusive ex.

This definitely made me defensive as I had apologized and had also made her dinner before she got home knowing she would be hungry from being at the dmv all day. We kinda made up and she asked to be cuddled that night which i did as i want the best for her. However the next day she has been cold and distant.

Seeing as you're In you're 30s I will assume your girlfriend is around the same age but she isn't acting like it. I had to hold in an eye roll reading how she reacted to you and her mother she needs to lighted up and take a joke either that or something beyond that is bothering her and dmv put her over board but to me sounds like she's being really childish about the whole thing. Like boo how we've all spend all day at the dmv they're people who have spent multiple at least she has accenssd to one like cry a river then get over it
