Why is it so uncool to live in sync with your natural evolutionary physiological design when it creates so much confusion and angst in relationships?

It's way too complicated these days. Take the question of who pays for dates. Why is this even a question?

Men like women who look good and enjoy being feminine and good mothers. Women like men who can take care of and protect them and a family and bring home the Woolly Mammoth meat. That's been the natural state of human relationships between men and women throughout millions of years of evolution. Why this sudden fight against nature in the latest fraction of a second tick on the evolutionary clock? It causes so much unnecessary angst. So yes, men should pay the bill on a date. That's his job. Why is that even a question?

The problems happen when people somehow think it is bad for them to live in sync with their natural evolutionary physiological design.

Was is the natural state, though? Do not forget that our prehistoric past was invented in the late 19th century by men who represented very patriarchal societies. At the time they had the ideal of a family made up of married couple in which the man has a job in the industrialized society, but the woman does not.

Evidence shows that our ancestors lived in larger groups, not in such core families. They could not realistically have afforded this kind of division of labour. They would have lookd after the small kids collectively, maybe two older women for the whole group. The young women could then hunt or gather while not bogged down by late stages of pregnancy.

Hunting small game like ducks or rabbits was not beyond women's capabilities. Wolly mammoth would have been a group task, but I wonder how often that occured. Some coastal tribes were found that apparently only collected mussels and berries. If you can get protein from seashells why would you even risk fighting a mammoth?

Anyway, please be more flexible when exploring our past as you might make the wrong conclusions.

I have a very old fashioned take on this matter and feel that, as the man, I should pick up the bill. My girlfriend is of the belief that we should be equal about it... I pay for a date, then she pays for the next one. We're both very stubborn people and have a hard time letting the other one be right on this matter.

That's rough. I think a lot of people are torn between their natural design and the demands of society. It's a shame that the society du jour tells women that their natural role in a family is somehow demeaning. I think that is what throws them out of sync with their natural design. When I was a kid people didn't have these issues and dating was glorious for both men and women.
