I don't cheat out of principles, isn't that better than needing to be in love in order to be faithful?

Too many people say ''If you love him/her then you wouldn't cheat''. If someone is only loyal as long as they're in love, then that's not really out of one's character.

Even if you ran out of love, I still think it's wrong to cheat. What about not cheating out of minimal human decency, out of principles? What about not cheating because it's simply wrong, regardless of the reasons? Someone that doesn't cheat either works it out and realizes life isn't about fantasizing about your partner 24/7, that every day isn't sunny or leaves.

If someone is loyal out of principles isn't that better than being loyal as long as you're in love with them?

There are three pillars to morality, and they are not consistent, they are influx at all times.

1. Legally- what does the law allow or permit.
2. Ethics- what are the social norms, or collective values within a society of people.
3. Personal values- what do you as a individual value in regards to ethics and legality.

So as long as you do not break the law, or ethics of your religion, faith, society or personal values... then you are considering a moral person.

1. Cheating is not a crime in and of itself, so its legal.
2. Society at large, puts no restriction on your ability to cheat.
3. Your personal values in regard to cheating may nor may not agree with the legality or ethics behind why some people may disagree with it.

In the end it comes down to personal values, and you might in general disagree with the concept of cheating. But others might say they can totally love someone that they are cheating on. Because sex and love are two separate things. But since it is not illegal to cheat, ethically it could be questionable, and personal values will change by the individual... I cannot say cheating is moral or immoral.

Personally, in accordance to my values... it really depends on the people and circumstances. Because I personally believe that love is not forever. Once you quit working at maintain that love for yourself or anyone else... sex and love are two separate things, not cheating on someone you do not love, in the name of love is completely contradictory.

I'm not saying it's OK to cheat, it's not! But you're not a good person if you want to cheat on them, and are just choosing to remain faithful because of some self imposed standard. If something needs to be fixed in your relationship, by all means work to fix it. But if you (or both of you are not) then what are you doing? Dump them, go get your f*** on, on stop torturing eachother.
