Anonymous(36-45)1 ySome people have a “ignorance is bliss attitude”.
While seemingly foolish sometimes this might be understandable depending on the circumstances. Shakespeare had an old saying “never peak through a keyhole lest ye be vexed”.
For example I had strong suspicions one of my exes cheated on me a week or so before she broke up with me. But I didn’t ask. Reason being I didn’t want to be wrong and have my accusation harm any chance at reconciliation later. Also I don’t know how I would of handled having full knowledge of she did after she immediately dumped me. I was already a wreck.
But we seemingly left with a mutual appreciation and agree to keep things friendly. A few weeks later we met up for business purposes and she proceeded to give me one of the worst insults I had ever taken from a woman in my life after I told her I missed talking to her (while my eyes watered up). It was stupid comment but her response to it was beyond horrible. Like I was less then human.
This haunted me for a very long time. Then one day every thing made sense. 99% chance she cheated on me and to placate her own guilty conscious she had to see me as less then human to self justify it to herself. Which makes her a true POS. While it might seem easy to tell myself “well be glad you never got serious with that” it was also devastating. I never saw that in her after a full year in dating.

1.7K opinions shared on Relationships topic. It takes a lot of work to build a lasting relationship. A person doesn't want to believe that the 7-30 years they put into the relationship doesn't matter. Similar to like if you worked hard for a long time to buy a house and then somebody shows up and says you paid a con artist and the house isn't yours. You're not going to run out of the door to the hotel down the road. You're going to be trying to find every excuse in the book to prove the news is wrong.
That said, some people intentionally get with cheaters and stay with cheaters, and ignore all evidence of cheating because they can't get a better spouse and they're afraid of being alone. The worst are rich women who get with broke guys. 99% of the type of guys interested in serious with them are cheaters.

1 yBecause they don't want to believe that their partner would ever do that to them. They want to think that they're faithful, trustworthy, and all of that.

Ah, the classic conundrum of love's labyrinth! People often shy away from confronting the possibility of their partner cheating, not just because they're afraid of the answer but because they're terrified of the tsunami of emotions that might follow. Imagine the heartbreak, the shattered trust, and the Pandora's box of insecurities waiting to burst open. It's like walking through a minefield blindfolded. Some feel it's easier to live in blissful ignorance than face the music and dance with the possibility of their love story turning into a tragedy. It's all about the fear of loss, my friend. They're scared of losing the relationship, the comfort, and sometimes, the very idea of who they are within that bond. Love can be a tricky game, indeed! 😉🔍💔

Because most people don’t want to picture someone they love and care about being screwed by someone else, it’s best not to think about that kind of stuff so they can feel content and at peace with their partner they hope their partner is loyal to them the same way they are loyal.

1 yI don’t know what it is for sure. Maybe it’s some type of denial…. As for me. I want to know. Sure it hurts. But at least I can move on.
There are so many people being cheated on and it only gets worse as time goes on

1 yWhat's the point? There's nothing you can do about it. It's past history. More important is the present and future, which determines where the relation is going, or not going.

1 yThat scene where the bald beaner is eating a steak saying ignorance is bliss in the movie The Matrix describes it well.
If you've ever stepped into the manosphere and watched a dude going through the red pill rage because he was blue pilled his entire life... you can clearly see why some people just want to take the blue pill, do as they're told, and ignore the fucked up reality.

1 yI think for me it be more of the fact that my partner is my best friend so I'd feel like I'd be loosing my partner and best friend at the same time and being together for x amount of years.. Id want to know if I found out because I've been told but i wouldn't go snooping to find out (no my partner isn't cheating, just a example)

1 yFinding the right one, doesn’t happen overnight, therefore I guess most people believe it is better to not know than know that their partner cheated with someone. It means you may have to start the wheel of fortune again going by going on dates, putting in the effort and competing against all other confident fish out there.
00 Reply1.5K opinions shared on Relationships topic. I don't agree with the conjecture. But relationships are an act of faith. We may not have faith in a god but we do have faith in a partner.
So people can just not see the signs of an unfaithful partner. It s different to not wanting to know.

1 yJust my opinion, but they're weak minded people. Even if my wife that was with me for all my life was cheating on me my whole life, I'd want to know, so I know that when I'm on the other side, I'm certainly not waiting up for her ass.

1 yI guess if I was 50 and I found out my wife had a one off when we were in our early 30’s I wouldn’t care much.
But I’d want to know and go from there. Cheating is also a certain kind of theft

And if children are involved then some prefer a functional facade to a troublesome truth.
