Sure, in the old days people stayed together until they got old then one would die eventually and that was the rest of their life with someone.
But now a days, most people don't get married kinda young and stay with that one person until they are very old and one dies first. Most relationships just aren't that committed anymore.

Maybe if you get married when 1/2 of your life is over, then maybe you could spend the rest of it with someone.
But let's be realistic here. Being committed to one person for the next 50 year's just doesn't happen that much anymore. It just doesn't.
