Why is it that, in relationships, I often find myself carrying the weight of someone else’s past pain and betrayal?

It feels unfair to face the repercussions of wounds I didn’t cause, as if I’m constantly paying the price for the actions of others who broke their trust. Instead of starting fresh and building something new, I’m left navigating through their unresolved hurt, trying to prove my intentions or mend damage I never inflicted. Why does love so often come with these unearned burdens?
