Traveling abroad and I will be away from my girlfriend for a month...advice?

I have been with my girlfriend for almost 7 months (10 months by the time I head abroad) and I really care about my girlfriend.

We are both 23 and in a fairly caring and happy relationship.

We had plans to travel abroad together, but because of financial issues she had to back out. I am still heading abroad because this is a once in a lifetime chance.

However, I am nervous about being away from my girlfriend for a month. Yes, I do trust her, but I believe it is hard to stay super committed and loyal with someone when you won't be able to see them at all and barely be able to communicate with them for a month.

Any advice on how I can deal with this?

I don't want my trip to be ruined thinking about her all the time and wondering why she didn't respond to an email I sent her or whatever.

It's a few months away, but I am already nervous.

Though having studied abroad myself and having seen close friends both strengthen and in other cases burn relationships (abit these were longer times abroad)- here's some observations:

1) Be engaged and enjoy where you're going. But share it with your lady. Set up some Skype dates, but don't do the hours everyday thing. Enough for through updating without taking away from your experience.

It may seem like your barely communicating. But its really really easy to get totally enveloped and forget about people back home accidently. From what I've seen, its usually the one back home who does more pining than the other way around. It probably won't seem as long to you as it will to her.

2) Send a postcard/ sweet trinket/ whatever. And since you're only a month out- do it the first week you're there. So it gets back before you do.

3) Seriously- chill out- it'll be awesome

I want to say "it's only a month, why are you freaking out" but I had my boyfriend gone almost two weeks last year when he was on the east coast. (and now that I think about it, we were dating for 9/10 months then too)..and I wasn't the happiest camper, especially when he originally was going to be gone just a week. I knew he was having a time of his life, and I was always really excited to hear his stories, so that made me happy though I missed him a bunch. I slept with his jacket every night, even though it was the middle of summer. aha XD

If you are dating for 10 months, I think you should be able to trust her and I'd hope she could with you.

Is there any reason that you couldn't wait to have her catch up financially so you could both go together? Not to prod! I mean, if it is going to bug you and ruin the trip...

I hope this didn't come off as rude, I really do hope it works out! Safe travels, use a money belt. :)

Do a few romantic things for her close to the time you have to leave. Give her one unforgettable night, something that will keep the butterflies in her stomach for a month. Keep each other reassured. Send her the short and sweet emails while your gone, just a little something to make her day and remind her of the wonderful night she had before you left. Express how much you wish she could have been there to share the experience but you look forward to being with her as soon as you get home. This will most likely keep her completely hooked and loyal to you.
