How important is it to help your partner out with chores at home?

Doing the dishes taking out trash dealing with the bills etc.

It's important. Why would someone expect their partner to do all the cooking, washing dishes, tidying up, scrubbing, vacuuming, doing their laundry for them, etc?

I did that stuff for myself when I was living alone. I'm not helpless and didn't marry someone to be my mommy. I would feel guilty letting my wife do everything.

Pitching in lets your partner know that you are not a lazy bum, you care about them and don't take them for granted.
When two people pitch in, the work gets done faster and there is more free time to relax or do things together.

Even when I was working full time, I volunteered to clean pots, pans and dishes most of the time, load the dishwasher, empty the dishwasher and put the dishes away, do all the laundry except for my wife's clothes because she is particular about how she washes her clothes. I empty the trash and take it out. I clean counters. I put my stuff away.
I take care of the mail and finances.

She cooks most of our meals. She does a LOT of cleaning, including the bathrooms, floors and carpets.
She cleans the cats' litter boxes and bunny cage.

She feeds the cats in the morning and I feed them in the evening.
We both work in the garden and help each other with lots of other things.

My wife is actually a very busy bee, so I do the things around the house that I don't mind doing and it makes her happy. We work as partners. We're a team.

I can't sit there and watch someone else work. So I believe in everyone pitching in to help. Housework has nothing to do with gender. It's just stuff that needs to get done in order to live your life. Inside or outside, cooking or cleaning, just help get it done. Maximize your free time together.

Very. Shows you take your responsibility, don't use and take your partner for granted. To me it is simple and have nothing to do if you are a girl or a guy, if you can't do a chore then learn to do so if needed. Older generations need to butt out and not think their way of dividing is the one and only solution for it. Itcan not be when nobody of the two is a housewife or househusband, it simply do not add up. I would frankly find a guy who behaves like that (like his dad) unattractive, more so then his dad, lol, as his dad and wife, the mother, was not working outside the home. The times are changing and we must change with it so nobody gets burned out.

Just think of the relief you give to another. How much that gains your favor. Small things often mean far much more than large.

I once had a man freak out on me for offering him a shopping cart I pulled out for myself. His wife had to explain his reaction. I hadn't thought twice about it at the time but he turned it into something I haven't forgotten.

It’s as important as it needs to be but certainly warrants a conversation , even if it’s just to say I like it the way we do things and no change is needed. Nobody should be “expected” to do anything or everything nor should it be assumed via gender but if thats the agreement then fair play.

It’s certainly important under consideration and basic respect of sharing a dwelling but I guess some couples find it easier to manage than others.

The way I see it , given that I’ve lived alone and managed a house on my own that things need doing ultimately it was up to me to do them or pay someone else to.

With a partner in a relationship we have always just defined chores the way it makes sense to fit the way we live and work and what’s best. So , I will place all food orders and do all foraging for foods etc and ALL the cooking just because we agree im better at it and the trade off is that other tasks and chores are then my girlfriends. It works well and when we need to we both chip in to get the jobs done because it’s it’s not about keeping score , we are going it for US !

Helping a partner with the daily chores is something to be decided together, but to me it seems logic and fair to help when the one is very busy with them while the other has nothing to do. Maybe useful to remind everyone that doing such household chores together helps keeping connection in every way with each other.

I have way more free time than my Partner so I took the responsibility of being in charge of meals, grocery shopping and cleaning. I occasionally ask my Partner to take the trash out and he's usually really good at maintaining our apartment when I'm not around.

I think it's very important but it depends on your " division of Labour contract " , let's say you are both company directors , working hard , then it's vital that's it's 50 / 50 , if however one is " stay at home " well that's obviously different..

In either case it's a good idea to have division of Labour in writing , with a work flow sheet so both know their responsibilities.

Important , but maybe not as written , process is everything.

Not a big deal.

A couple should probably come up with a "who does what" routine pretty early on. If she is a stay at home mom then she should do most of the inside stuff.

If it is a house guys usually do most of the car stuff and outside maintenance. If both work and it is an apartment with no bushes, trees, yard that the homeowner would handle and the property owners handle the landscaping then they should be able to have an agreement on usually who handles what.
