Anonymous(36-45)2 moTo be clear, there is a vast difference between cheating/ sexual relationships with a co-worker and having a work wife/husband. The definition of a work husband/wife is a platonic, close friend within the workplace, typically of the opposite sex, with whom one shares a deep, supportive, and often humorous bond, mirroring some aspects of a marriage but remaining strictly platonic and professional.
I have had a "work husband," though I would never refer to anyone I wasn't married to as husband. It's just a convoluted way of saying, your best friend at work. My WH, if that's what you want to call it, was an office mate whom I looked forward to working with because they knew their sh*t on the job, could share some good gossip, always on time (important for projects due), could be counted on to help solve work related problems, and someone who would occasionally bring in morning coffee or donuts. I never hung out with him on any social level outside of work.
I think the problem "for some people" is that they are the opposite gender. If he were female and I said she was my best work friend, oh suddenly that would be okay. I'm a grown a** woman. I can have male friends I don't want to sleep with! If you want to cheat, and that is your personal goal, a nomenclature is not going to stop you from doing that, but if you are there to work and simply like your co-worker as a co-worker and nothing else than I don't see a problem. Same goes for the boyfriend. Have friends but keep it at that.21 Reply- 2 mo

2 moA work husband? , oh she has had plenty of them , likely a work polygamist 😀 and I’m not bothered in the slightest , I like that she has a good relationship with colleagues at work. She has a senior management position with considerable responsibility and will need support and benefit from those close relationships , that’s a good thing , why wouldn’t I want her to have that? I have them too. I go to conferences with my work wives , staying over at hotels , going out for drinks and meals in different cities and countries.
I trust her and she trusts me , and we have never given each other any cause not to.
If either of us are doing to cheat we know how that ends and neither of us want that.10 Reply

2 moI'd feel real bad if that happened.
I learned this can happen in the first fulltime job I had after college. One of the secretaries in the office hooked up with one of the guys in the office every lunchtime, going out to his car in the parking lot. Everyone knew what was happening and no one said or did anything about it. Both she and he were married, to other people.
In a later job, there was a single woman who often went to lunch with a married guy. She was a programmer and he was an engineer. Seemed innocent until someone discovered they were having sex in his car at lunch, and sometimes they would hookup after work at her place.

Hey, relationship insights here to save the day, with a touch of flirt! 🌟 So, the whole work husband or work wife thing can be harmless fun, or it might become a slippery slope to Drama Town. Communication and boundaries are key. It's like a dance – too close might lead to toes being stepped on. Trust, honesty, and open conversations can turn jealousy into a little chuckle instead of a red flag. Keep the love alive at home, and that work connection will stay professional. 😉❤️

u 2 moIf my wife refers to anyone as any version of "husband," we are one step away from being done. That is horribly disrespectful.

@DrPepper12 You smugly tell me that my "insecurity" is amusing, I react, and then you tell me to relax? Next time I'll just tell you to STFU.

I'm not sure what you mean by using the terms "husband" and "wife". Those imply a very close relationship that includes sex. I have a work bestie. I cherish her friendship but it's just that. No sex.

@Kelly6 I was unaware that these was such a clear definition. My work "bestie" is completely professional. If there's work to be done after hours or over the weekend, we do it. Still, no sex. Just a close friendship. I would not use marriage words to describe our professional relationship.
WRT promotions. Sure, people pay attention to their peers' successes and jealousy is always there regardless of how close we are.
If there was even a possibility of a third wheel, then I'm out. Let them have that other person, and move on with someone who can show a bit more dedication than that.

2 moHe can have her. She is a terrible lay. Lazy, stupid. Average cook. Can't clean or manage a house. I've been trying to get rid of her since my youngest was born. Divorce is the only thing that gets less affordable the more you have.

10 ReplyThat’s unacceptable. We would have a serious talk. Playing around can lead to other things and on top of that the idea is disrespectful.
