How I understand the Beast and the woman of Babylon

To me the beast is a symbol for secularistic idolatry where people live for pride (forehead) and indulgence (right hand) and laziness (number of his name). It is stubborn heathenism built on selfish social devices and egotistic self-attribution and anti-religious self-reliance.

While the woman riding the beast is the judgmental believer. When the bible instructs God’s children to come out of her, it means Christian society is judgmental and you must refuse to participate in the exclusionary policies of the church, to avoid being condemned for your judgments against others.

I’ve always interpreted the beast as being a future totalitarian system that governs the whole world. And since that beast seems to be a hybrid of the previous beasts, this future totalitarian system might be a hybrid of previous totalitarian systems.

The Beast is the Roman Empire and the Woman is the krypto Jews who had infiltrated all of Rome's institutions. And that's what John meant by the metaphor.
