Why Religion Does Not Always Make You Holy

You have people who say they are religious committing acts of terrorism against outsiders, supporting xenophobic political candidates, trying to exclude their cultural or religious “other” from the public sphere, opposing welfare reform for the disabled and mentally ill, humiliating new converts who ask for prayer to overcome their sins at church. Supporting abusive behaviours towards damaged and troubled people that make errors in judgement with no desire to rehabilitate them.

The reason they do this is simple: They worship the anger and wrath and condemnation of God and and do not worship the love and forgiveness and mercy and charity of God. The bible says God would rather you are kind and inclusive than self punishing and sacrificial and that your faith is built on your acts of kindness and not on your hostility to those that differ from you in ideology or religious composure.

It also says if you are merciful, forgiving and non judgmental, that God will be merciful ans forgiving and non judgmental towards you. How precious is that knowledge when you face a health crises or a guilt complex!

Be nice to others and God will be nice to you, that is what the bible teaches.

Their are 2 religions oit there that Idon't count. The way I see it is all religion count as long as you belive in God. The other 2 are Satanism and if you hide behind a religion to do wrong to others like the FAKE REPUBLICAN CHRISTIANS. firstly you did not separate "religion" in your title from the "actions" that religious people do. for example if someone does what his book forbade that is not due to the religion but opposed. so we can only judge religion by its books. if in our morality holy war is bad they still call it "holy."
most importantly your conclusion is not based on the bible that stipulated several times "not even one" our good deeds are like moldy clothing isaia 64. only by grace which means accepting a certain gift... not by "being nice".

There are people that try to be a better person

There are people that don't try to be a better person.

There are people that acknowledge they have a problem and seek help.

There are people that deny there is anything wrong with them and think it's everyone else that's crazy and not them.

Yes, religion does not make you holy. What makes you holy is the blood of Jesus. It is not through our human capabilities but only through faith.

It's as if God chose to see the holy spirit in you instead of your old self.
