This story could have several different meanings. The best interpretation I've read is that the knowledge represents duality of the masculine and feminine energy, which led to a disharmony among man and woman. Sin can itself can be interpretted as disharmony of the soul in relation to the logical mental processes.
No not really. This happened. I believe it came from God himself as hard fact. It's the only way the beginning has ever been explained in a way that was presented as FACT rather than theory, hence the term Big Bang *THEORY*. So you know whoever wrote it was confident in how true it was. So yeah, you can only be so confident in how true a theory is. This actually happened, it's not a metaphor, and sin is a real thing. How is disobeying the being who created you a disharmony in soul due to logical mental processes? It's literally like saying, "F*** YOU!" :|
Sir: I totally respect your beliefs and i won't argue its whether or not this story is factual. But it is my belief that the point of biblical stories is to trigger right brain patterns of thought such as "intuition." To reach back and re-connect to our inner child. The story of Adam & Eve and their subsequent banishment from the Garden of Eden could be an allegory for puberty and the knowledge of sexual functions, which in some cases does destroy the innocence of youth... We seek heaven and salvation from sin because we want to return to our childhood selves. Because lets face it, being an adult sucks.
But what about all the stories of people who have near-death experiences and say things about heaven that they shouldn't have known? You can't ignore that. I understand that the world is just in denial because it wants to believe it can be independent rather than having to rely on a Creator, but there are some things you can't dispute, like the sheer complexity and design-like nature of DNA.
Additionally, my belief is that God is a creator, not an authority figure who polices the activities of your soul. You learn from your Sins. Its what makes you human.
Again, im not denying the existence of heaven or God.
But if He created you, you are His, no? It's like patenting an invention. Someone can't just say that invention isn't yours because they say it isn't yours. The "patent" is there. We are his beloved intellectual property, so who are you to say he has no right to be an authority figure? That just makes no sense.
Bottom Line: Our logical parts of our brains can't comprehend God. Which is why we have to open up feeling and intuition because those can understand God.
Exactly. If we can't comprehend it, it's gotta be awesome, right? Long ago, people couldn't comprehend the idea of anything other than our solar system, and you see how that turned out! So what you can't comprehend about God is probably very similar in that it's just the cusp of what there is to grasp!
Howd that turn out? Curious?
We can find no end to what there is!!!

So, I had this question too. In our church we believe that it was all on purpose. It wasn't a sin to eat it. It was a sin to disobey God's word. But it was all part of the plan... So our eyes could be opened and Adam and Eve could procreate. So humanity could start. So the plan of salvation can come into action
You see the current world... do you like it... the terrorism... destruction... nuclear weapons... well they are all result to the knowledge we possess... I think you got the answer to your question. ☺️
Because their "gij here god" commanded them not to eat it. And prevent them from knowing the difference between good and evil. This however most likely never happened and is just one story to explain that god's power
According to what it says in the old testament, if we ate from both the tree of knowledge and the tree of immortality we would have become gods. And God didn't want that
Except we DID eat the fruit, and DIDN'T become immortal, or like gods.
We were immortal in the first place and we became mortal and fragile and weak after eating the fruit. The land was cursed, animals were cursed, the whole world became fallen and death and corruption entered the world. So maybe THAT'S what God didn't want.
Maybe God wanted us immortal and living in paradise, that's how He made us. We thought we knew better. We thought it was better to listen to some stupid fucking talking snake in some damn tree, promise us many sweet things we already had if we would just throw it all away with both hands.
Don't try to outsmart God and then turn around and blame Him because you weren't as smart as you thought you were. He told you what to do and how to do it AND why. Are you doing that? No? Still expect it to work anyway? Yes?
Huh. Found your problem, didn't we?
No, it says very specifically that we weren't immortal just very very long lived. It's written in the old testament as a quote from either God or an angel as saying the reason Adam and Eve were exiled from Eden was partly to keep them from also eating of the tree of immortality because then we would be as gods.
You're going off of what the snake said?
The one character that is a known liar?
He told us we would live forever AND be as gods if we ate the fruit. We ate the fruit and the opposite happened.
If we were immortal now, we would beg God for death.
I don't know which part your having terrible reading here lol
There were 2 different fruits, we only ate 1.
It wasn't the snake, it was God and it was said after the 1 fruit was eaten.
Keeping us from eating the fruit of immortality was given as a reason for exile from Eden.
because the fewer things you know or understand , the easier you are to control
that is what religion is all about; control of the masses
That tree was the knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve didn't know evil until they ate that fruit and sin was born?
It was the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
God said not to eat from the tree. And to disobey God is a sin. So eating from the tree was disobedience.
It had nothing to do with the part of what it was (a tree and an apple).
The objective was to set a guideline or rule to never be broken and the goal was that the idiot would obey out of respect.
Because God said eat anything except that fruit. It has to do with obedience, therefore by eating it, sin was introduced into man.
Well there is nothing significant about the fact it's an Apple, but the reason it was a sin was that Adam and Eve became aware of their shortcomings, one of which was sin.
Basically, man was no longer exclusively listening to god.
The story of creation is something that could stand next to the storys of grim brothers.
Religion is the cause of almost all wars ever. It hasn't taken more than interpretations of simple, unnecessary questions like that.
Wrong. Religion is has been the cause I think it was around 10% or 18% of all world wars.
Mhm and that is still more than justified, isn't it? Maybe I am wrong, I just don't like religions.
I don't care if you don't like religions. I was just pointing out your error in saying religions are the cause of "Almost" every war.
Well the Hebrew stole there religion from Africa Jesue is Horus.
LOL Jesus
As a Hebrew my apoligies for the stupidity of my ancestors. Fortunately they are getting old and will die out. And as we become more secular, will likely steal less. Just look at the hebrew state today for an example of stolen things. Everything from land, brands, ideas, etc. Theifs suck.
Because now the apple logo which could have been complete, now has a bite taken out of it.
It was just a simple tree, where the fuck did you get that tree of knowledge thing? That tree was the only one they could not eat, it was a test for them. It is like a rule, like don't kill people or don't steal. If someone cannot even do that little of a thing how can he be worthy of being in heaven? And did they gain knowledge after eating it from the tree? No they did not and I don't know where the fuck you got that story from.
It was the tree of knowledge of life and death.
Yea, and did they get the knowledge? They got a big dildo in their assholes.
It depends on whether or not you believe God is omniscient. If he is, then the Garden of Eden myth is a twisted mind game. If he isn't, how is he God?
No, I wouldn't say it was a twisted game, rather than a test. He knew they'd fail, but without them knowing how they'd come short and need God, how would He be glorified by the end results? Just because you know someone's going to fail a test doesn't mean that it's a "twisted game" or something. It just means that was a required test. I think it very well displays how humans fall short and how much we need God, and how our own poor choices right from the start have been our sad-but-true downfall many times. But God has renewed us with his Son because he loves us. It shows how much of a price he puts on every individual head, because Jesus is available to all those who accept him as Savior. :)
@Gavyn If God knew they would fail, then it wasn't a test. It wasn't a lesson, either, since neither one of them ever got the opportunity to make amends for their wrongdoing. It was simply a headgame.
He knew they'd fail, but it still tested them. Just because he already knew the outcome doesn't mean it was a headgame. I mean, if the overall end-goal is to use us to glorify himself because he is worthy, that'd be the way I went about it if I were in his shoes.
@Gavyn That's not how I would play it. It makes God seem petty and malicious. There's two explanations for this: he really is illogical, petty and malicious. Or, the story is wrong. I believe the latter.
Because God knew what would happen when they eat it. When they are it the baddbside effects came. Moreover, he knew that the Satan will ask them to do so, hence he wanted to test their loyalty
It's just a plothole in the story. Why create the tree and then be surprised when someone eats from it?
Why not listen to someone smarter than us discussing that very topic? Check out Jordan Peterson's biblical stories talks on YouTube. Or his podcasts.
Because God commanded it with his rod of wisdom. If God commands something with his rod of wisdom you must blindly obey or be punished for eternity.
by the way rod = penis
Because informed children ask difficult or awkward questions.
I dont think it was the tree of knowledge but thats how satan called it to trick her into eating it meanwhile it was actually a forbidden fruit which means something bas could go wrong thats why God forbid them to eat the fruit from that tree.
The problem with the whole creation story ( I'm not atheist), is it never mentions that the War in Heaven has already taken place. Hence Eve's temptation. My opinion for all it's worth is we were screwed from the beginning.
Cause adam didn't know sin so he didn't know how to commit, he was innocent only knowing what God told him. But when he ate the apple he new about sin, knew about his nakedness and even tried to HIDE from God cause he knew he has done wrong
I think it was like
You're free to do whatever, don't touch that though. Like a test. Will human greed get the best of them or not?
This takes a lot more than just answering the question itself, because there's always a lesson behind it.. otherwise it's not completely understood...
What brought this to your attention, if you don't mind me asking?
I don't know but this world is full of hate and I don't like it. It makes me sad how cruel this world is. I just know that sinning like murdering someone is a sin. And they should be ashamed for taking someone life because they have problems. Sexual harassment. I see it all over the news. Nasty pedophiles do that. Bullying. Why do we choose to hurt others because we are hurt. It doesn't solve anything. Wishing we all could be positive but we have this cruel world to face. 😞
Agreed. But this is why law is so important. Biblical can be twisted and dangerous if enforced. Secular is often more modern and neutral. There are many people who are evil and can't change. If it comes that, I would turn to torure and possibly killing to get the message across. Putting them to hard labor may help since good people can do better things, but not if their wickedness makes them unhelpfully lazy. An example are KKK members and neo nazis. They dont have use to the world. They complain about petty things and are parasitic off of people they hate cause they are too stupid to make things themselves. Whats the use keeping them alive except hard labor nobody wants to do? And separate from everyone else since they want that so badly. I wouldn't mind torturing them to get a message across. Law is law. They aren't above it. And maybe its time they learn the hard way.
It was Quince, and I believe God always intended for us to partake of the tree. The warning wasn't so much that it was forbidden, but that the gift of knowledge also carries the burden of knowledge.
The only one who has the answer for that question is God. Since your parents tell you not to do particular things because they know better, the same thing here, he knows something we all don't know.
Having too much knowledge can s deadly to us. Some stuff right now I wish I never know. The tree of life was supposed to open there eyes about the world
Knowledge seems like a good thing until you know too much. Knowledge of pain. Knowledge of suffering. Knowledge of limited time. Knowledge of hate. Etc.
It all goes back to the unpublished old testament book of masons. The secret knowledge could only be achieved via a secret handshake which was hidden from the great unwashed
Because a lot of things in the Bible are examples. God gave them one rule. just one rule! to not eat from the tree. They did it anyways. It shows an example of how sinful we are.
Another story says Eve ate two nuts of the pleasure tree. That one is more believable :P
God knew that the serpent was in the tree and that it would lead them into temptation meaning that they would jeopardize their relationship with God.
SO TRUE
If everything is God's will then God is responsible for everything
Its not a matter of want its a matter of obedience god gave specific instructions to not eat from the tree and they disobbeyed and in other words told god "hey your a liar and you dont tell us what to do
It means we would wake up and not be able to be controlled a by a book that contradicts itself several times.
Because the rulers of the christian faith want people to remain ignorant and more controlable. That's the main goal of religions.
I think this is another example of how the bible is made to be a political gain in medival times and throughout the 18th century.
It's a metaphor. The point is the rebellion and the lies, not whether there was actually a fruit.
pretty sure it was a test of their obedience to God. could they resist the temptation basically
knowledge is power, and too much power is never a good thing
For authorities the average man having too much power is never a good thing. I see where you are coming from :-)
I know... I've explored atheism completely in the past few years, I contemplated why religion would have been created, it's just I was raised differently... sort of "brainwashed" the first 14 years of my life, I was unprepared for the real world and what it entailed, and now I'm stuck playing "catch-up" while everyone seems to be light years ahead
I am not atheist, I believe and practice no religion.
I use my experience to hold my own beliefs :-)
Lol @ light years ahead
because knowledge is power and god is a knucklehead
Because knowledge and religion don't mix. The idea that people would figure out that the truth is something they can figure out on their own terrifies religious leaders.
It was a symbol of disobedience when they ate the fruit they learned what good and evil was. Good is obedience evil is disobedience. The fruit wasn't magic oe anything
Yes! Its a sin! I am an apple!
Me too :3
😂😂😂😂😂You girls!..
It was a rule, and the he tempted them via the serpent. A test of obedience.
The tree symbolized obedience and devotion to god. Eve put her own desires ahead of god. Thus making it a bad thing.
It is a long story. Go to Ask Rabbi. com and he will tell you the symbolism. It has to do with obedience, innocence, temptation.
Its an interesting allegory, the more you know the more damgerous you are. Or maybe god thought that humans would be too OP if they had knowledge
Since when God fears?
I wasn't talking about god being afraid for himself, maybe he was worried humans would fuck up his little eco system lol
They cannot fuck up anything lol, God means someone or something being able to do anything you can imagine. And one with power like that would never worry about anything.
you're telling me we haven't put ourselves at the top of the foodchain? That we haven't cut down innumerable forests and have made extinct dozens of animals?
You know that he can instantly make them grow, instantly turn back time, instantly make everything you can imagine happen?
So what?
How can a human fuck it up?
Arn't we already? Besides whenever god wanted to change something he had it done by proxy, told noah to build the arch, sent jesus, he clearly doesn't like to do any big intrusions into the world he made. Also i wanted to tell you, you remind me of those kids that try to convince somebody that superman is so "totally cool" because he destroyed a galaxy with a sneeze once lol.
Fuck superman, I hate marvel shit. Life is a system and everything can be calculated.
I bet you fucking love superman
Superman can go back to his mama's ass
Because knowledge shows us that religion is not the way
Because that tree was reserved for God. Kind of the way a family might reserve a chair for the father (if he's the provider) as a way to acknowledge that the whole house is actually his.
Everyone that shares a reason why is getting their comments disliked. That's odd. :/
Didn't god say to NOT eat the apple. But they did so they disobeyed god
It was not about fruits or sth. But rather about trust
I've always wondered why didn't god just make the fruit untasteful or out of Adam and eves reach
You need to read it again. It was that God had forbidden them from it and they did it anyway.
i have heard this story
only this story !
where can i read these stories?
Because the whole narrative is made up.
And isn't to be take too literally.
It's fairly obvious that it's a metaphor of some sort.
God forbid Adam and Eve not to eat it because he knew there would be consequences and now look at the consequences
