It should be up to the business to serve or not serve anyone, for reason, or for no reason at all. Generally however, they will properly serve 2 men, or 2 women who are together, but they should definitely consider NOT serving them if they engage in a "public display of affection". This is very offensive to most people. Whether a business is Christian or not, doesn't matter. (just MHO)
Look it might go against their religion regarding the idea of Same sex marriages but when they refuse to serve they are alienating people. Different religions can have their beliefs and values regarding this issue but no way should they be acted on such as refusing to serve people that’s just plain rude
1st amendment to US constitution. Right ro freedom of speech... freedom of press... right to assemble as well as religion... religion remains separate of state... Meaning he/she was practicing a religious belief by saying no i won't allow that then that person is not wrong
Yes. In the cake case they chose that one baker and he offered a pre-made cake but not a one made from scratch. That's reasonable and they had other options but no they had to bring him to court.
There's a difference between being horrible and reasonable. If the cake maker told them no, no matter what I'd understand.
In every religion, they say that you should love all people. Plus it's very rude and inhuman to refuse to see them as a person, so I would say I truly, fully, 100% am against that law of hate
there are ways around this issue, they were just trying to descriminate against them if they were not served. if it is against your beliefs than someome else can serve them. if you choose not to allow anyone else to serve them than you ate violating the law
Yes it is. You should have the right to refuse to serve anyone for any reason if it's your store.
If people don't like it, then they won't shop there. Personally, I'd never deny money for my business but that should still be your right to do so.
Of course it is ok. Personal freedom of thought must be applicable in ALL directions.
No matter which 'side' - if a party involved is forced to do or to think this or that: there is no freedom then.
Private businesses can do whatever they want but people can also boycott them or just refuse to go there. Denying people service is just rejecting their money which is dumb anyway.
These gays can ask to get served in a muslim diner, cafe or bakery. Im sure there they'll be welcomed with open arms.
LMAO 🤣
Yep. They won't leave with their heads on if they dare try. 🔪🔪
Of course it is okay! You have the right to reuse anyone service for any reason if you own and run the business. The same-sex couple will have to find another shop to bring their business to. It is just a matter of personal freedom.
Indeed it will be against their religious freedom. However, the LGBTQ couple should also respect the religious citizens by not doing mid-heavy skinships (like kissing or beyond) in front of them because it would be inconvenient for them.
You should be allowed to refuse service to anyone even races. In a free market bigots, racists etc will not do very good business because the word will spread that they are assholes we dont need government to do this
Why is the LGBT community, always trying to force itself on religion?
I know the LGBT community doesn't like others forcing their beliefs, on LGBT's. So why do it yourselves?
Public place has no right to discriminate.
He can't say no blacks on his window definitely can't say no gays. That's discrimination.
Churches (places of religious worship no matter the denomination) are not considered public places.
Ur right
But Ifs a coffee shop for business they can.
Still,
Leaves the issue of people always trying to force themselves, and/or their beliefs and lifestyles on those around them..
Im all about equality.
Somehow we've mistaken equality for forcing "underdogs" beliefs on everyone else.
Which is just another form of discrimination.
Equality is being equally able to have the life you want.
Dont like the one you got?
Dont like where you live?
Dont like your community?
Equality is being able to change all that. Without forcing those around you to change their lives to accommodate you.
Exactly same time we should all have some restrain and respect for one another. Ex. This restaurant in NY. He allowed straight people to kiss in restaurant then when gay couple did it he went oblivious and said get out. Is that fair?
Buddy, life is not fair.
And no amount of law will force people to accept one another.
Law and legislation, has fuck all to do with morality.
So again, whether or not its fair. Forcing people to accept thibgs they dont want to is only breeding more hate and discontent.
Instead of trying to force change. Simply be the change you would like to see in the world.
Be genuine, and you may influence someone else. But you will never force someone to change.
It's bigoted.
Freedom of religion does not include the freedom to harm others through bigotry.
What a gay guy does in bed is utterly irrelevant to you unless you are in that bed.
You're not being "oppressed" when you're told that you can't discriminate against other people.
What a crock of shit.
In my opinion yes
If your are in a same sex relationship and someone religious doesn't serve you don't make a fuss about it walk away and go to another restaurant
Respect peoples religions and cultures
But also let people live the way they want coz you know you only live once so time to enjoy life live in the moment.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience

Why do you use Chick-fil-a as your photo?
They don't refuse to serve anyone?
Yes and no.
Serve? Not ok.
Have to put pro gay messaging or attend a wedding? Ok to refuse.
I think they were ok with just selling them a cake.
If I don't like your religion then can I reject selling you service?
If you want a wedding in front of Jesus and I don't like Jesus then I can offer you some really good place like your Halls of Ancestors?
Perfectly fine. A private business owner has every right to choose whom he or she desires to be business with for whatever reasons.
If you don't like it then go to another business which will accept your company and money.
A buisness owner opens his shop to the public. They should not be allowed to discriminate like that
If you have your Own Business, Tis your Own Business... xx
With a Cake and Bakery Business, Everyone's Money, Honey, Is STILL THE SAME. xxoo
no its not ok to refuse service. how is that any different to jim crow and refusing black people services in cafes, hotels, buses, and if ur hiding behind ur "religious reasons" just remember the bible never said that and jesus sat with sinners and i think u can sit with "sinners" too.
What if a Muslim man in a Western country, working as a driving instructor refused to teach women because he believes women shouldn't be allowed to drive?
I think this is a poor example, the driving instructor is refusing to do the job he was hired to do, the baker is refusing to accept the job altogether, its a big difference.
If driving instructors were independent and taught people by individual contract for payment from an individual person, should he be forced to accept the contract?
Yes it is okay to refuse to serve someone based on religious beliefs.
I don't believe it is a good business decision personally, but it's not my business to run, so whatever.
of course it is. it's their believe. everyone is free to believe whatever they want and everyone is free to stay away from believe. so if peoples religion discriminates against gays and you're gay, don't join that religion. easy as that.
No. I mean if it was about race, everyone would be outraged by this and being outraged would seem reasonable. If it was about gender, everyone would be outraged and being outraged would seem reasonable.
How is this particular situation different?
The owners of one of our local chick fila goes to my methodist church. Our church is open to people of all orientations and gender identifications. I doubt they'd deny service to a gay couple.
In some instances, yes. For example, if you are a pastor/priest of a religion that forbids homosexuality, then they shouldn't have to marry them Or if you are a doctor that doesn't believe in abortion, than they shouldn't be forced to perform it either.
Put yourself in the place of the couple being discriminated against and tell me how you'd feel.
I think so
I think private businesses should be able to refuse anyone they want for whatever reason
so, for example, black people? Jewish people? Hispanics? Native Americans? Asians? All these groups have been refused service in the not too distant past.
Should business be able to sell whatever they want with no guarantee of usability of safety?
@slatyb if I don't want to serve people
Because of their race , what's the problem?
They can go eat, buy, or use other services somewhere else.
They can go to their own places, start their own businesses etc.
I didn't say anything about Safety haha. That's a whole other issue.
In 1964 the US Congress thought it was a big problem and passed the Civil Rights Act
It's not okay. Just like it would not be okay to refuse service based on the persons race or religion.
I've said this before, religion has no place in the work place. If you don't want to serve people then quit your job. Shut up about your beliefs and do your job. Hate gay people on your own time.
“Omit all personal prejudices”... except it IS a religious prejudice. You’re choosing to have that personal belief; not every religious person automatically adopts every single religious belief just because their religious text says to do so.
No it isn't oki. Now a priest who refuses to marry them is one thing but no establishment should refuse to serve same-sex couples.
Not in my mind. What does it matter who they love. People shouldn't foist their beliefs on others, esp in business.
It is okay. That's not prejudices. It's a part of liberty. You can be whatever you want to be, but you also have to be able to respect/accept other people's views on it. Try to grow up, before having a marriage.
@GreciaJackson took the words out of my mouth. If you are religious and join a public company, you sign a contract which adhere to serving all of the general public.
Secondly I love that photo you posted lol
I think it is. People have the right to refuse anyone. Christians are all different, so some may find it fine, others may not, because same-sex couple are actively breaking /their/ laws. Sometimes it can get out of hand either way, but imagine serving someone who is in the process of robbing you. (Bad example, sorry.)
Do you think religious beliefs matter now that several states have made it illegal to discriminate against gays?
Sure they have that right. I don’t agree with the choice but definitely defend their right to choose it
Well I guess it is, since people have the freedom not to serve people from there own business, but it's an extremely stupid thing to do from a business point if view BC your cutting out a lot of profits BC "my magic book says it's wrong"
I think they are also god's child and we should respect that, not the people or society of the church
Some years ago a female clerk was jailed for refusing to marry two lesbians because of her religious beliefs. They would have had to put me in jail too!
Well, technically she was wrong because she worked for the government, she should just have quit the job.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy or they should simply have fired or otherwise disciplined her for not doing her job, and ended the matter there. Imprisoning her for acting according to her conscience should not have been treated as an offence against the laws of the land.
No, it is not OK to refuse to serve same-sex couples based on religious beliefs. If your job is to serve, then you do not have the option to refuse, because your time has already been bought by your employer. Your only option is to quit your job.
i could care less who i'm getting my money from as long as it's not causing any problems.
It's a slippery slope. Unless the act of serving them food is actually against your religion then I don't see how it can be justified. Same goes for liberal trash who refuse to serve someone based upon political beliefs
All these people talking about it being a private business would change their tune real fuckin' quick if it was discrimination against a black couple.
https://m.imgur.com/t/lifelessons/zs1fe.gif
If the gay couple had asked for a birthday cake, there would have been no problem. They asked for a wedding cake, which is against the baker's religious beliefs. There is no way this can be equated to a black/white situation.
Ha. Let's be honest - Probably not.
@CountessSarah Ahaha, you're probably right. These people are thick as diamonds.
@Tanisha69 Sssoooo what if a person's religious beliefs were against interracial marriage or something similar?
Yes they should be able to refuse to bake a cake if their religion is against interracial marriage. There are no religions like that tho. Not that I know of anyway.
@Tanisha69 Imagine indulging people's *INSANE* delusions (yes, it is insane) to the point where you allow business owners to discriminate.
What a clown world we live in..
What has it to do with religion? Show me an except from the Bible in which god says don’t serve same sex couples
But it says Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
I just don't see how two people being in love could be against someone's religion.
If we can refuse trumps supporter, then we should be able to refuse anyone else. Or we should be able to refuse no one. There shouldn’t be two sets of rules for right and left.
No it is pretty dumb, people who discriminate in this way deserve to be stoned to death by the community if they break any other rules in the Bible themselves
From what i know, you have the right to refuse service to almost anyone as the owner. www.mydoorsign.com/.../
No it's not ok. THe topic as to whether it should be illegal is something else. Plenty of gay clubs treat straight people like shit and in my city straight couples are turned away from gay events all the time. So it's a debate.
You can't refuse to serve them. If you provide custom pieces like the Masterpiece cake shop case you can deny them specialty pieces, but vfc that's it. The guy said he'd sell them a cake, just not make a speciality cake for them.
It's ok to refuse people a vegan store has the right to refuse making a meat pie so why not the other?
Its not okay and it says more about you then about them. Honestly I find homophobic people stupid
If you are a commercial outfit, you must by law serve everyone.
If you're in your own kitchen, yeah, it's fine (legally).
Show me which law requires me to serve everyone? I reserve the right to refuse service and it's clearly stated on my website. Oh, and many business say so as well on their windows.
@Dude_1820 Go ahead and refuse black people and see how that goes.
@Juxtapose race is a protected class. LGBT is not
Protected class is not as you say ‘everyone’ as required by law 🤔😂
@ZeussLightningBolt this must be one of the idiots we were talking about earlier 😂😂
@Dude_1820 Yeah, private businesses aren't allowed to discriminate against race. Unless its white people. Lol
@Dude_1820 And they can discriminate against Trump supporters
😂 I know lol
I mean technically they can not allow Trump supporters but it’s a poor business decision
@Dude_1820 I agree. Imagine the outraged if a Democrat got that treatment.
Let’s find out! Lol
@Dude_1820 ANFITA would burn the restaurant down
@ZeussLightningBolt they’re not a terrorist organization... they can’t
@Dude_1820 They burned Berkeley down
😂 filler
@Dude_1820 Well you can't choose if you're gay anymore than you can choose race soooo..
@Juxtapose sooooo your point? They’re still not a protected class. It’s not that big of deal for them to suck it up and just find someone who will do it for them.( I mean they’re gay... sucking should be the easy part. Bad pun I know lol) It’s as if they’re looking for trouble and being SJW’s.
I also have the religious freedom to be against the lifestyle and choose not to support it
@Dude_1820 I don't see why you think black people should be protected but not gay people.
@Juxtapose because that’s fact and law? Duh?
@Dude_1820 "Cus of duh law" is not a valid point.
If you really think that is all that matters, then you are an automaton who would have been okay with slavery back in the day just because it was legal.
If the law told you to paint your face bright orange every Friday at 9 p. m. and then wash off the paint at 10 p. m., I guess that would also be okay because it's the law!
@Juxtapose 😂 that’s a terrible analogy
Race is just that, race. Homosexuality is a lifestyle that I personally disagree with. I have friends that are gay though. Disagreeing with the lifestyle and being homophobic are two entirely different things (before you even try that line of attack). I’m actually ok with gay marriage being legalized in America.
But as a business owner, I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. I can’t not refuse service to black people because they’re black because 1) I’m not racist and 2) assuming I were racist, that’s a VALID lawsuit waiting to happen.
If I refuse service to a gay couple to plan their wedding I’m entirely in my right and an INVALID lawsuit waiting to happen.
In my experience, most gay people are the most dramatic people ever and they all cry homophobic the second someone does something they don’t like. So if I refuse service, guess what, find someone else who’ll do it you idiots. It’s not like there’s a shortage of wedding planners. You’re going to waste more time and money trying to be a. SJW rather than just saying ok and move on.
Earlier this year when Sarah Huckabee Sanders was refused service at a restaurant, I sided with the restaurant owner. Despite being a supporter of most of the Trump Administration. For the same reason. The restaurant owner reserves that right. I think it was a stupid decision for him to make, but not illegal.
@Dude_1820 Ah, so somebody's sexuality, which they are born with and can't control, is a "lifestyle."
Yikes dude.
@Juxtapose It is a lifestyle in my opinion. And that’s all you’re going to say? 😂
However, I’m smart enough to not give that as the reason to why I’m denying service for a wedding. It’ll be something along the lines of like I’m too busy or something. Just because I don’t want to deal with the hassle of them raising he’ll but I’ll gladly defend myself if it gets to that point. As you have stated on an opinion in a different question, the LGBTSHIDK (I loose track of how many letters are in it now 😂) community like to make a big deal of stuff
@Dude_1820 "Being black is a lifestyle."
Would you argue with that? There's no point, anyone who believes that nonsense is just too dumb.
@Dude_1820 I was referring to general anti discrimination laws which are currently a minefield in both UK and US courts, it seems.
So while I may be an idiot, i am one with a point rather than just sharing feelings.
Many recent lawsuits look to side with the businesses where religion is involved but there's always going to be a disgruntled customer who wants to tie you up in court for a few years, regardless of what the website says.
@Juxtapose lol being black isn’t a lifestyle. You’re literally making no argument here.
@madgoat I can agree that there is always going to be a disgruntled customer. That’s expected in business.
But still general anti discrimination laws don’t really cover this topic. If that were true, businesses would’nt be allowed to display signage that says they reserve the right to refuse.
https://m.imgur.com/t/lifelessons/zs1fe
😂😂 glad you recognize it in yourself dude
YES. I think it should be encouraged actually.
Maybe then they'll stay in the closet where they belong
Don’t start a fight, don’t start a fight, don’t start a fight!
Do you boo, but being homophobic ain't my thing
@13IsALuckyNumber if he starts a fight I'm on his side!
@Dude_1820 Most of GAG will be on my side.
I’m afraid that ZeussLightningBolt is probably correct on that last fact given the other *great* conversations I’ve had on this question.
Sorry not this question a different one.
lol probably but I've seen some pretty stupid liberals (redundant but oh well) on here hahaha
@Dude_1820 I know. The Liberals on this site are so fucking stupid.
Most of the site is Conseevstive though.
I've already roasted a few fuckers with my lightning bolt who dared to fuck with me!
lmao I've done the same a couple of times though I don't have a fancy lightning bolt.
But according to your username you are Zeus’ lightning bolt not Zeus.
@13IsALuckyNumber Finally someone noticed. Took 2 fucking years for someone to notice
@13IsALuckyNumber So he shoots himself on these people! haha
@Dude_1820 Sometimes my dick shoots lightning bolts
But your still a lightning bolt.
@Dude_1820 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😆
😂😂😂😂
Sorry, you’re not your.

It depends, are you refusing to cater a gay wedding or something similar or are you refusing to let a gay couple buy a coffee in your café?
