@dillbill561 what is consciousness? Is an ant conscious? What about robots? Some AIs can make intuitive decisions i. e. Do something they weren't explicitly programmed to do. Do these robots have a soul? Probably not, but say in 10-5 years from now, AIs will be intelligent enough to make decisions about things on their own with input from their surroundings—much like how humans behave. Will they then have a soul? Will they be real living beings with a mind?
Ability to think. Surprising most people don’t have this, they are the living dead aka zombies. Ever heard of Jesus returning and “reviving the dead”? That is the true meaning because the people inside are already dead. However from the “tree of life” it is forever because the “soul” never dies. No need to worry if the soul is missing, or rather “think” about it. Since they can’t do this anyway 😆 Nothing really changes lol
@dillbill561 what sets apart our consciousness from an ant's? And why can't machines be conscious? If a machine can detect emotions in other people, respond to them accordingly, be able to form its opinion on things, even hold a convo etc. What is it still lacking?
Aforementioned things aren't impossible to recreate. Even if im being generous with the estimation, technology like this will be a reality in 40 years from now. Realistically, seeing the rate at which people's interest is growing in AI, it can even very well be just 15, or even 10 years.
@dillbill561 i still dont understand. An ant is conscious, but a machine that can interpret and display human emotions is not?
And what is artificial? The machine is just made up of transitors and ICs built on silicon wafers. Metals, minerals, etc. God put them here. We didn't magically bring this into existence. The inner workings of the machine is just a lot of algebra and statistics. Something that can be explained even to a child like me. This stuff is grounded in reality and follows straightforward logical reasoning if you look into it. Far away from witchcraft.
It is just following commands it was given. Tons of software and people watching through mass surveillance. The reason is only because people are so generic.. it’s not 100%
@dillbill561 its not really following what it is told. A chess ai for example, doesn't go through every single possible move and then calculate the best one. Instead, it recalls only those scenarios that fit the current one the best. Its just using probability. Even the software engineers don't know what exact calculations are happening as the process is iterative. A few lines of code can be understood, but the whole is unknown—much like the human brain where the funtion of a few neurons is well understood, but the whole is largely unknown.
My question still stands. An ant can't interpret, understand, and respond to a human. A machine can, WITHOUT being explicitly told to learn these things. The machine learns this on its own with the data presented, again, much like human children who grow and learn from the consequences of their actions. Why is it not just as 'alive' as us?
These machines can adapt and adjust, again, much like humans. They are not bound by the rules written in their code, as their actions aren't hardwired into them.
@dillbill561 i still dont understand what you're trying to say exactly. Im just gonna present what i believe in short:
I think that believing in a "soul"—your consciousness, is flawed.
I don't know if the machine is conscious. I am not claiming that it is conscious. AI is simply an example of "consciousness" being a blurry concept with no concrete meaning. What exactly does it mean to be conscious is still widely debated. From zygote to human, where exactly is this point where we start being conscious? Anyways, if a generalist AI was developed, that could behave exactly like an human, and i mean exactly, according to you it won't be conscious like us. So, all im asking is what is it that we have that the ai doesn't?
I dont understand the man made argument. The universe is chaotic, but it strangely follows certain laws very strictly. Patterns of shapes and numbers and the laws governing them naturally arise in nature. Math is not man made. Math is simply a formalised observation of what we see. The universe isn't all random chaos.
It is not something a godless person can understand I’m afraid. Read what I have to say with a honest heart and see the answer has been provided multiple times
AI machine's does not have a soul because a human created them and not God. They might seem to be like human's but they're not. They're not real living beings, they are programmed to seem like humans but they still do not have a soul.
@3QOOs thats exactly what im asking. What is that thing sets them apart from humans. If a generalist ai is created and is completely like a normal human being that you could talk to, be friends with, rely upon when there is need etc. basically an actual person, what is it that keeps them from being human? How are these things that are capable of experiencing and to responding human emotions not human? Sure an easy answer is God did not make them but still, these machines aren't from a completely different reality. God gave us the tools for this to be possible. Sure humans created these machines, but all the underlying concepts are real phenomenons and laws we observe in nature, which God certainly put in place in our world by his own will.
If anything this argument is not about whether these machines are alive or not, its about what constitutes a "soul" and why it can't be created artificially, like a consciousness? What is "soul" In the most concrete and well defined definition?
Well every living creature has a different soul, there's intelligent soul's and animal soul's. Animal soul's don't go anywhere after death, intelligent soul's live on after death. What sets them apart from human's is that they don't have a soul that goes anywhere after death. What do I know, maybe they have some kind of soul but it's definetly not an intelligent soul aka a soul that live's on after death. God is the only one capable of giving things soul's, nothing human's make such as robot's have a soul unless God gives it one which I doubt he would, But he could if he wanted to. I don't know much about programming but these robot's (or future robot's) are programmed to be like a human's but they are not real human's. After they "die" they won't go anywhere. And no, no matter what these robot's do they do not have a soul no matter how human like they might seem. What keep's them from being human is that they weren't born one. Jesus died on the cross for us, he died for human's not robots. Simply, if you're not a human you don't have a chance to get in heaven. So these robot's neither go to hell or heaven because God did not sacrifice himself for them. "Giant's" are real in the bible and they have an intelligent soul but they could not get into heaven because their dad's were fallen angels. Fallen angel's have an intelligent soul as well, but they can't get into heaven. When Giant's die their soul becomes demon's. My point is robot's do not have a intelligent soul so they won't exist in the afterlife. They are capable of experiencing human emotions because they are programmed to learn from humans, behave like humans, basically just be a human. No matter how good they are at acting like a human they will never be one and they will never go anywhere when they die. I'm sorry if I did grammar mistakes or if I'm hard to understand, English isn't my first language:)
@3QOOs okay i like this argument. Especially the jesus part. But this makes me think, are we the only life forms that are allowed access to heaven? Since the universe is so god awfully huge, there's a very very good chance of intelligent civilisations existing alongside ours.
For the sake of the argument, let's say we do end up contacting one of these civilisations, and also let us assume that they more or less have the same level of sentience/intelligence/consciousness/whatever as us. How would these lifeforms fit into the picture? And how valid are their "souls"?
I have also questioned myself those exact questions. In the bible God says he has other people, but no one knows what those "other people" are. My family is wondering if there is another type of being with an intelligent soul that is human but don't look like one. As you said, God's universe is huge and we know so little. Who know's, maybe God has other people.
Angel's are made in heaven and they have the choice if they want to follow God or follow satan. I don't know about any other type of human with the same soul's as us, but it could be very much likely that that type of human exist's. You know there might be another human race that we don't know of. If there is another type of human with the same soul as us that we don't know of then it's another human race. Yes, their soul's would be valid if they're exactly the same as our's.
You know Cain and Abel, I don't know if you've heard of them before but they are the first two son's of Adam and Eve. Cain was the older brother and Abel the younger. They both sacrificed stuff to God, Abel sacrificed his most beautiful and youngest lamb's while Cain sacrificed vegetable's and fruit. God didn't like Cain's offer and didn't accept it, Abel's offer on the other hand God liked and accepted. Cain was mad out of envy and jealousy so he murdered his younger brother Abel with a rock. He thought he could get away with it but God found out and confronted Cain, he threw out Cain from wherever he lived. ( I don't remember where he lived) And Cain found other people, he found someone and he had a son with her. But who or what was this woman if she wasn't Adam and Eve's daughter? It must mean that there was other people on earth and that Adam and Eve weren't the first human's, at least not the only humans. It could be that God created differen't human races on differen't places. She might have been another human race that we don't know of, it's just one of my theories but Adam, Eve, Cain and Abel weren't the only human's on earth.
Who know's what there is out there, it's very interesting to investigate in tho. I'm still learning:)
@3QOOs that is very interesting... So there is a possibility. Im not religious but i like to read stuff about religion from time to time cause i find it interesting. Usually religion is very human centric and it always makes me a bit mad when people NEVER think about how it ties into the greater picture beyond just human beings and this planet.
Really? What kind of energy? Energy comes in many forms: potential, kinetic, electrical, chemical, internal, nuclear - take your pick. It is basically a system's ability to perform a task, to do work, so how does Einstein's equation fit into this? Please explain, and I want details with all relevant equations.
@Rachelspiks. @juliaanita. I'm NOT a mathematician or a physicist, but things like the Higgs boson, or “God particle,” and Schroedingers Cat suggest that matter and energy are interchangeable, perhaps through multiple dimensions.
Yes, it's clear to me you're not a physicist, because all you presented here was a jargon-loaded word salad that means absolutely nothing. The "God Particle" is what the MEDIA christened it; its got nothing to do with God, religion, philosophy, or anything else related to ultimate questions about the meaning of existence. The Higgs boson is ultimately responsible for the existence of mass, without which our reality would be inconceivable and completely lifeless and void. Schrodinger's Cat was simply a thought-experiment devised by (of course) Erwin Schrodinger in order to demonstrate the inherent absurdity and inconsistency of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, way back in 1935. By the way, Einstein had a great deal of trouble accepting QM and its implications as well, and was one of the very last of the better-known physicists to fully accept it. Oh yes, and one more thing. Unlike you, I actually am a physicist. But don't tell anybody, let's keep it our little secret, shall we? :)
@Racelspiks. Ooooo. Pat yourself on the back for your performance. You clearly think you have ALL the answers and can explain EVERYTHING. So, please show us your brilliant imagination and tell us all where do we "go" after death?
Gladly. We don't "go" anywhere. Our bodies deteriorate, and the electrical energy that powers our brains becomes disordered, and all memories are lost. I don't think I have "all the answers"; just the opposite, in fact. Science is all about discovery, and being humble enough to admit that there are still many mysteries to be solved, but even so there are some things that we DO know, and one of those things is that there is no afterlife.

Yeah. 6 ft under, hopefully unembalmed with a tree planed over me whose roots will feed on my corpse thus earning me another century of life.
Just, please God, not New Jersey!
No. I don't believe anything happens, which is why it's called DEATH. People need to stop adding on to everything that will eventually end.

Yes ants are conscious but machines are not conscious no. That is why it is bad to kill any form of life. Only permitted sacrifices are acceptable
@dillbill561 what sets apart our consciousness from an ant's? And why can't machines be conscious? If a machine can detect emotions in other people, respond to them accordingly, be able to form its opinion on things, even hold a convo etc. What is it still lacking?

There is no setting apart. It is all connected to God the spirit. Machine is just artificial, maybe even witchcraft.

That’s the same thing. The machines are much older than your PC. So you may not understand the full gravity of the situation. But it is dire.
The reason it is not is because of what I said. Man made idols and false worship
@dillbill561 i still dont understand what you're trying to say exactly. Im just gonna present what i believe in short:

Well, I sure hope you're right-but I'm not sure that Einstein shed any light on the possibility of life after death.
No, but he did suggest how it is possible for people to become ghosts or move into other dimensions

@juliaanita He didn't. He's lying.
